N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yes, some park at the train station, which is next to RTC.  I believe it is paid parking though.

J'sMom,

Once you get to RTC, there are Sailors who can get you inside graduation hall with a wheelchair and they will wheel you back out too.  Just let the Sailor know about your knee condition and they will direct you where to park.  They will save you on walking~~  You can call the Public Affairs Office at 847-688-2405 to get the specifics.

diannep thanks for the info.  I'd prefer to rent a car, just makes it easier to get where we need to go.

CO-Twin mom let me know if someone replies, and I miss it, about parking at the train station across from base instead of driving on to base.  I don't really mind getting up and sitting in line in our car, but my kids may not want to.  There are 4 of us going.  My goal is to walk as little as I need to.  I'm having ACP graft surgery the next week and my knee isn't in top shape.

Sarge soes say if you have a car to go early and park at the train station because the gate you go in is across the street. Is that accurate?  If so we may take our rental.  We may have room for two extra people if we opt for that.  From the Navy Lodge.

Comment by diannep on June 17, 2013 at 12:43pm

...you will need to use a shuttle or drive to PIR from Navy Lodge.  Too far to walk and no sidewalks/busy street.

Comment by diannep on June 17, 2013 at 12:42pm

J'sMom:  Although some have done that, it is tricky...and once you get to the GL train station...you still need a cab to get to hotel.  You would then need cab service (Sarge offers discounts) for around town---and actual cabs are a bit expensive (there are PIR rates $3/pp but that is just to/from PIR).  Renting a car is still usually the best "deal" if you can swing it.

We have reached our final week as boot camp mom's and wives! What an honor it has been to be part of this group. I have enjoyed sharing this experience with all of you, through the many tears, laughter, and excitement. We will soon meet at Sarges and then in the RTC hall on PIR day, I so look forward to this! I have become Navy strong and proud to gain my second family ( The Navy Family)! Best wishes to all the SR's in their last phase of Boot camp and to all the moms, wives and girlfriends still awaiting that special phone call! Hooyahhhh

Jo's mom. For twin 1 we took Sarges taxi's everywhere, it got quite pricy. We also took the metro. We lucked out and our son had an extra day, flew to A school on Sunday. So day 1 (Fri) he just wanted to hand at the hotel. Day two we took the metro to Chicago and walked around downtown got great deep dish piazza. It will not be walking distance to PIR. This time we fly in at 7pm Thursday and will have a rental car. However feel trying to drive, park and find our way to PIR hall we may just take the shuttle taxi and not mess. We will be at navy lodge also.
