N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Oh, and Betsy is correct - ASMO=Assignment Memorandum.

CO twin - Great news on your sons biopsy! :-)

Comment by diannep on May 28, 2013 at 2:11pm

Asmoed=setback in training (yes, Assignment Memoradum is the proper term).  When my son was asmoed, he called me (supervised call) and told me he was being asmoed for 2 weeks and here is his new PIR date.  I already had my flights (sigh...) so decided to wait until he actually was in the new PIR group before changing.  As it was, he called me just a week later to tell me that his new PIR group now was actually (gave me a date a week earlier than the last one he gave me).  So he was only on "hold" for a week.

Different circumstances will create different situations.  So glad that your son is training still, not on hold, even though he is repeating two weeks of training.  That's ok....he'll be strong and determined more than ever now!  Prayers for him to rise above whatever is going on!

I agree with imomxfour:  Everything DOES happen for a reason...even if we don't understand at the time....

MomofDan - Sorry to hear about your sons setback. Prayers for strength for him!

Glad he has a job in his new Division. We will see you over on your new PIR group (((HUGS)))

BIG (((HUGS))) to you, MomofDan, you have a great attitude about this, even though I know it's upsetting, and you are right, this will just make him stronger in the end!! I always remind myself in times of disappointment & frustration that "Everything happens for a reason"

SO happy to hear of all the calls yesterday!!!!!

CO-twin, wonderful news about your son's biopsy, thank goodness!! And thank you for sharing that info about your IT sailor, it gives us a little bit of heads up on what we might be able to expect for our IT sailor, coming up in a few weeks! I'm so anxious to find out where he will be headed next. But really just can't wait to get him back home again for a longer visit - this weekend was too short, and it was VERY hard to say goodbye again. :(

I cannot believe we will all be at PIR in just 3 1/2 weeks!!!! YAY!!!!!!!

BTW, I'm about to cancel 1 room at the Navy Lodge for both Thursday night June 20th and Friday night June 21st, in case anyone needs it - bcause I booked 2 rooms (2 queen beds in each/$66 per night) because one of our SR's friends wanted to come with us, and thinking that our oldest son wouldn't be able to attend, that was the plan. But in the letters last week from our SR, she says she really just wants family there, and doesn't want to risk leaving her brother off the final list of 4 people, just in case he can go. So, I'll be calling right now to cancel that...just letting you all know in case you see it and want to call ASAP and snag it up. ;-)

The call before yesterdays I couldn't hear my son at all and he did call a third time on a different phone and it worked perfectly.  So maybe he will.

Comment by Betsy on May 28, 2013 at 1:07pm

I think it stands for Assignment Memorandum.  MomofDan, you and your family are definitely in my thoughts and prayers right now!!

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on May 28, 2013 at 12:53pm

I can't believe I don't know this but what is ASMOed mean?

Comment by Michelle on May 28, 2013 at 12:45pm
It's probably simpler to wait until all schools are over then relocate to the duty station. You have to deal with trying to get short term leases, more in house expense and a lot of jostling for a short period of time - relatively speaking -particularly with little ones. My hubby had 3 schools which was about a year or so. During those times I'd go for visits or when he was close to me he'd come for the weekends. Definitely transient living but always exciting when we did see each other. It was definitely happy times when we moved permanently. My Mom said all she could see was my teeth when we were pulling out finally moving to our duty station :).
But if you're not in school or want to travel with him go for it. Its really what works for you. I just wanted to pass along some strategies that helped us and hope IRS helpful to someone else
