N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

kitkat508, If there was something wrong you would have received a call. Your Sailor may have had duty after BS.

Should we worry if we don't get the Im a sailor call? I didn't hear from my husband today and others from his division did. They would call if anything went wrong, right?

Thanks for all the info ladies! How did you all know what time and where to meet your sailors at the airport? Did they give this information while you're with them on Friday?

Thanks, Hootsmom, for all your very helpful PIR feedback!!

I want to also add to bring a set of casual clothes for your Sailor to relax in your hotel room only.  Also, at the airport, bring their cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop, ac adapter, own comfy underwear, maybe some favorite snacks only available in your hometown--put all this into their Navy issued black backpack~~ I also brought some baby wipes to clean up anything in a hurry.

We met my Sailor daughter at 2:00 am (parking at an offsite parking lot and grabbing the free airport shuttle--but I still tipped the driver as I was grateful for him picking us up in the frigid night and he was friendly) and stayed with her until 10:30 am when she boarded her flight~~  That lot wa $14.00 for all day vs. $5.00 an hour for the Midway airport lot.  This time at the airport was PRECIOUS!!!

By the way, Sarge's cell phone number is 847-212-0246.

Wanted to stop in and touch base with the next group for PIR. My Sailor just graduated this past Friday. What a great event.  I wanted to encourage all of you to attend Sarge's Meet and Greet. Such great information you will get, he is awesome! Bring a basket, buy raffle tickets, call him for transport from the airport or anywhere. Bring a flag or banner for your table or area to you all can find each other by division.

If you are at the Navy lodge it is the best. If you are looking for a place to go with your Sailor just to walk or eat, Libertyville is great (Chicago was crazy for the NHL parade so no go).  Bring a white towel to sit on, and tide stick. One Sailor dropped his pizza in his lap, another bled on his uniform at the airport from a cut finger. They will bless you when you can pull it out of your purse, they are gold.

Give him time to shower and get out of the uniform for an hour or two in your hotel room.

We met our group at the airport at 12:30 am! Saturday morning and hung out until they boarded at 6:30 am. Sarge will tell you exactly where they disembark at the airport, tricky as your Sailor has no phone.

Airport is freezing so bring warm clothes, nothing but Starbucks is open so snacks or food helpful in the early hours. Offer your phone to Sailors who want to connect with family or FIND them you will have a line, and much appreciation.

Arrive early everywhere! They will want to flee after graduation, don't expect to linger once liberty is announced.

Best of luck to all thought I would pass on some info we learned. Above all enjoy your time with your new Sailor!

I'm feeling the excitement of the phone call and then PIR! Thank you to the N4M community and leaders- this place has been a huge help and a "place" to feel connected to my boy. Also so much helpful information for us to make the most of this journey! Much thanks and safe travels to those who are able to make it to PIR!
