Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Our SR's are almost done! :-) Cindyloohoo, your daughter had the smarts and tenacity to get this far so she will make it wether its this week or next! :-)

DianeEp thank you for the A school tips...what a sight that should be!! Does the marching routine to the gate apply for those in the Diveprep schools etc??

This group has been amazing! The support and advice priceless! Thank you all!

For those families struggling with sickness, emergencies, and changes in PIR, my prayers are with you all as I read these posts daily and My blue candles are aflame!

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Comment by diannep on June 24, 2013 at 9:29pm: Michele: The "Metra" from Chicago lets off right next to RTC. Not sure of the station name. However, I would suggest that you rent a car if you can. You can get some decent rates in that area, especially when renting outside of the airport where rates can be higher. Just gives you a bit more freedom and cost-wise, it is usually cheaper. Otherwise, you will be using taxis which can be quite expensive.

Comment by diannep on June 24, 2013 at 9:26pm: Cindyloohoo: She is not in FIT yet because she stays with her division up until they do BattleStations. That is why you got the call today. I'm happy that she had not done the run yet today...there is always hope that she made it and is in BattleStations right now!

As far as the 2 hr visit Friday if she has not passed, they no longer allow that. We used to recommend that families still go up so they could have this visit, but then RTC made a statement that they will no longer allow this. It would be up to you to "take a chance" and go...hoping to get to see her.

Lets hope the paragraph above is not an issue because she will pass and be at PIR! Fingers crossed!
