Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies, please be sure to stay on the N4Moms group too if you go over to the FB groups.  We will be giving lots of info here on this group.  If you have questions in your group on FB, please bring them here so we can give you the info.

Also, remember, you must practice OPSEC over there too.  Even if a group is a "closed group," you really don't know who you are letting in.  It could be a friend or family member of one of your SR's RDCs?  So be mindful that if you wouldn't post it here, please don't post it there.  Thanks!

This picture may help some of you understand where your sailors are.  I wrote this to help the deppers (future sailors) understand on my website, NavyDEP.com

Earl'sMom, I've been jumping up and down trying to get your attention over in the 900's division group. lol - my SR is with yours, and I think they're bunking by each other and getting close. (If your last name starts with R and as your profile indicates you're from LA.)  Did you get your call yesterday?

Anyone else here have a SR Ship 02 Div 934? And where can you find any information on that ship  if there is any?

Thanks Catmom and please know your encouragement is sincerely appreciated. I'm better this morning and maybe just needed to have another good cry. You said something that made me realize I'm dealing with two issues, the unknowns of boot camp and how different our lives will be now. He's never been away from home longer than a week or two and now he's pretty much left the nest for good. I work full time, am back in college and have another son graduating this Friday. You would think all of this would keep my mind busy but...:(

Craig,

Those photos are cool to see because the families are not allowed on that part of RTC!  Can you put up a pic of the USS Hopper so that I can copy a photo of it for my Navy scrapbook?

Comment by CatMom509 on May 20, 2013 at 5:47am

Tammy,

It's normal and you're entitled.  I find myself tearing up if I'm just sitting still and them my mind wanders to my Sailor daughter and how things will be so different now.  It can happen just driving in my car too.  I just have to get ahold of myself.  I know she chose this path herself and I'm soooo proud of her!!  Keep yourself busy as best you can.  I have lots going on, but am spending so much time here putting up scripture for others and giving what advice I can.  I love helping mommies!!
