~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Dianne - thank you so much... just reading your comment started the tears all over again but in a good way. :)

P.S. My son is on Ship 3, Div 254.

Tammy:  As a control freak myself, I can tell you...it's not easy!  The Navy is in control of everything with your son now...as my son said, "they own you."  Yep, they do!  My son had lived away for a while before he enlisted so I had a natural break then.  But he moved back home for 10 mos in DEP before leaving.

This will be a good thing for both you and him. But it is a challenge, for sure!  You will treasure him (and he you!) even more than ever before because of this distance...the letters and phone calls will be like pure gold to both of you!

Hi everyone, just rec'd my account approval so here I am. :) I haven't rec'd the form letter yet, but his recruiter gave me the 7/3 PIR date, and that he's in one of the performing divisions, ship 2, div 934. (He led his college color guard - and subsequently drill team - to a national championship in '10 at Tulane, so that's no suprise. Uh, tacky-brag there, sorry, I'm just kind of psyched to talk to people who GET IT.)

Anyway, he'll be going to SC after boot for Nuke, so we've got a lonnnng stateside road ahead of us, which is just fine by me!

We reserved at the Ramada from the 2nd to the 7th since we're apparently one of the only PIR groups to get stuck in a weird "not real sure" situation, huh?

It is comforting to know that there are other moms out there who are feeling the same way I am. My son is 21 but has never left home and it's so hard letting go. I am also a control freak so that makes it even tougher! I don't think I've ever been more happier to receive a form letter in my life (lol)! Just seeing where he wrote on the envelope and in the fields of the letter gave me comfort.

For that have sailors on the USS Triton ship-12.  Here is the entire history showing the ship (barrack) and the history of the various Triton ships that it was named for...

My daughter was in the 900's division. She was in the choir and was right up front at the microphone. It was awesome :) Here is some more info about the performing divisions.

Performing divisions info:

There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.

eileen:  Do you think she may have sent the form letter to him also?  She can request a 2nd letter from her RDC to send to you, I was told.  You will need the password that it is in that letter to download your gate pass for PIR when the time comes.

JoshuamomNV:  Just remember, bootcamp is a like training for deployments.  When on a ship, there are times when they are in  "blackout" which means no communication.  Other times, you may be able to be in email contact....but contact is very sporadic....calls can come in the middle of the night too....so this is "practice' for that!  Hang in there....it does get better as bootcamp goes along and you get letters/some calls!  "A" School is a whole different situation....so much better with contact restored!

Good Morning All !
