OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

*trade off, not grade off!

Shawneen:  If your sailor is flying out, you will have the remainder of PIR day with your sailor.  The sailors must return to RTC that night, usually around 8 or 9 pm.  Most will fly out on Saturday, bussed to the airports in the wee hours of Sat. morning.  You can meet your sailor out there.....take ID and get the airlines gate pass to wait until the plane departs.  You can grade off personal items to your sailor at the airport, whatever can fit in the Navy-issued backpack. We still suggest that families book their returns on Sunday if possible...just in case a sailor doesn't fly out until Sunday (happens sometimes).

Welcome to the site, Meggie!

Thank you diannep!

After PIR can we spend time with our Sailors? I understand that some will need to report directly to A school.  I'm just trying to understand what time we will have, if any.  Any thoughts?  Take care!

Meggieeeee9, I remember when my older brother went to Great Lakes and my sister went to Orlando for boot camps. It was very hard. They were my heros, still are. Now my son is there at Great Lakes same division as your brother. The next 32 days will go by so fast. After that it will be easier to communicate and hopefully, you will get to visit them where they get stationed. His service may open up the world for you as well.

Hi everybody! I'm new to this site. I'm not a Navy mom, but I am a Navy sister. My brother is Ship 13 Div 215. 32 days can't come soon enough. This has been a tremendous learning experience for me. We have gotten two phone calls and I can't believe how much he has changed already. He sounded so great on the phone. He has been made a division leader and I could not be more proud. It's been hard to be away from my best friend but the end goal is so much more important. Hope everyone is hanging in there! 32 days : )
