OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Zacsfan...you aren't alone. I am feeling the same way! Will be praying for you daily. It has to get easier. Sending hugs and counting days too.

Received a phone call Saturday and letters today. Loved hearing his voice and seeing his handwriting. He is SOOOOO happy. Eating well and working out. Looking forward to July 11 when I can see my son.

Zacsfan Awe, if it make you feel any better, they are almost halfway done! Before you know it, the same amount of time will pass again and you'll be on your way to see him :)

I am just unbelievably sad missing my son. I count the days and the weeks and it gets more difficult by the minute. I cry most days. I want to hope this will get easier but I am not sure it will. I don't come on this site often anymore because it just makes me too sad. Maybe I am not the only one out there or maybe I am too attached - this is miserable! (sorry for venting)

Amen on what maureen posted!  Keep those phones close at all times, even in the bathroom or when stepping out to check the mail!  A missed call is a sad thing to see from your SR!  And they usually cannot call back again at that time.

Good Morning All !

dalia,

Are you okay?  You posted an incomprehensible message!

Comment by JoeMamafromQTown on June 4, 2014 at 9:18pm

My recruit is on ship 13, Div 215 also, he is an Eagle Scout and has also said boot camp is an adult version of scouts. He seems to be adjusting well. I finally received my first real letter from him today. Lessons learned so far, do not leave phones more than an arms length away, expect the call at anytime and write several times a week. It means the world to the recruit.
