OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning and Happy Memorial Day!

mel0331,

My Sailor daughter is an IT (Information Systems Technician).  The schooling was 5 months long in Pensacola, FL after she classed up (enough Sailors arrived for the training to begin.)  She received certififcations in her IT training and will be able to be hired by private companies if she chooses not to re-enlist~~  She researched the ratings (jobs) available and specifically chose something that she would be able to use after serving in the Navy!  Proud of that girl!!  She's only been in the Navy for 17 months and is a Petty Officer 3rd Class after finishing 2nd in her class~~  :D

Here's the description for the Information Systems Technician.

Not sure about the IT groups.  Some of these groups are not too active, but you may be able to read through the pages and get info.

Keep us posted!  Prayers for the right decision for him!

mel:  So sorry this happened to him, but I know it happens more often than you think.  Usually due to a "recruiter's error" or incorrect info reported from recruiter to RTC, which is the sad part.

You may want to join the groups on this site for the rates you mentioned.  You should be able to get some info from the ladies there on the specific rates.

I hope that they will let him call you before Tuesday....even if just a division call that they all get to make.  As far as an individual call just for the purpose, I don't hold out too much hope for that....but you never know.

I will see if I can find some links for you to the individual rate groups.  Hang in there!  Have to believe God is in control and this is happening for a reason!
