Good Morning! Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th!

Haven't been around much due to my "real job" taking too much time away from my fun. Then my power supply on my computer failed, then my secondary hard drive. Bleh...hate computers sometimes.

Hey diannep, Guess what I did get during my absence... A new pic of my son on ship.

Hahahaha!

This pic is from a "Steel Beach Picnic". They have these on the last Sunday they are out at sea and ready to head home!

Sorry I haven't been on yesterday or today. We are now in FL on vacation and I can't use my phone for this site. We were traveling all day yesterday. We got here last night and my brand new computer that I have had less than 2 months will not turn on at all. So, so very disappointed in DELL :( I called tech support and have to mail my laptop to them and wait about 2 weeks to get it back. No idea how they expect a small business owner to work without a computer for that long :( Thank goodness my hubby has his laptop and I can use it enough to get on a little bit each day. If anyone needs me or has any questions please email me at uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com I can check email and facebook from my phone but not this site for some reason :(

Happy Independence Day to all of our Navy family. Just a couple more weeks and I will get to see my daughter and beautiful grand baby :)  I hope you all had a wonderful day and I hope you got to spend it with your sailors or got to talk or FaceTime with them. <3 It is because of their service and those who served  before them that we are able to enjoy days like this with our families <3  God Bless them all!

jodymac - that IS great news!  Now you can relax and get excited for the big day!

I look forward to meeting some of you.  I hope to make it to the meet and greet but am not 100% sure I will get there in time.

Happy to hear that everyone seems to have weathered the storm without too much damage!  We are supposed to get more bad weather here in NJ this afternoon.  I hope it misses us so the fire works are not cancelled.

14 days!!!!  This is so exciting!

Have a great 4th everyone!

Jumanji.  That's good news!  When we shuttered up for Hurricane Andrew back in 92, we had never used our shutters.  I had insisted on buying them when we had been in our house just a year and a hurricane back in 81 was threatening and we didn't have time to get shutters by then, but we had never used them.  Ours are panels with clips you hammer in....so guess what?  As we were preparing for Andrew, we found that the company had shorted us on the clips!  YIKES!  No way to get them ....too late before the storm.  We had to go to using pieces of cypress mulch alternated with clips on several windows.  You know what?  Even with winds that topped 135 mph (or higher....we had tornadoes in this hurricane).....every one of our panels held....no broken windows....but sadly our 2nd story roof came off down to the wood and we had water throughout the house dripping through the walls, closet door openings, paddle fans, I even pulled out the big drawers under my stovetop and they were full of water!  I still have a mental image of my then 8 yr old son, mopping mopping mopping in our family room under a paddle fan that kept dripping...poor little guy...I finally told him to please not worry about it....it will drip for a while.  The damage outside was remarkable...like a bomb went off.  Even took 2 of our 2-story front columns (thankfully non-supporting)....all of our pool screen cage, trees were down (some just gone) everywhere, in a twisted mess.  We spent 3 days picking up just roof tiles off our yard and the neighbor's.  Some went through the plywood on our neighbor's window, through their window and into the car they had tucked "safely" in their garage, doing damage.  Even our metal fencing around the yard was twisted and a mess.  I grew up in Miami so knew about hurricanes, but this was the KING of all hurricanes.....power was off for 3 weeks, some areas much longer....they had to rebuild the entire electrical/cable/telephone grid....poles, lines, etc gone....my parents live about 8 miles north of us....they just had yard debris/screens out around pool area....no shutters but no house damage.  They drove down to check on us (phones out) and were shocked as they got closer closer....couldn't even find us since all of the street signs blew away....and with debris, nothing looked the same.  Our stores were all blown away too....so no place to get supplies or food....this is NOT a story any of us wish to re visit!  Nor wish on anyone else!  Not fun!  But a year of re building, using over $100,000 of insurance money, and we were good to go after that....hoping all stay safe during this hurricane season!

leemarkop:  In past years, the SRs were not allowed to watch any fireworks....sigh....I'm sure they can hear them though.  It would be nice if that rule would change!  :-)
