Greetings Friends~~
"As an eagle stirs up its nest,
hovers over its young, spreading
out its wings, taking them up,
carrying them on its wings,
so the Lord alone led him...
Deuteronomy 32:11-12a
Clear the highway, I'm heading to my P.O. Box!!
Just got my first letter from my son. He sounds good. He gave me a pretty good description of his daily life at boot camp! So glad to hear from him. Hope others are receiving letters too!
Jumanji: Never apologize for lengthy posts! You never know how much your info may be helping someone reading them!
For those who haven't booked their trips yet, remember to checkout Southwest Airlines into Milwaukee (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic). No change fee if your SR is delayed in training, 2 bags check for free.
Hotels booked directly with the hotel (ask for the Navy Graduation rate when you call....but Navy Lodge doesn't offer that....their rates are good anyway).....usually can be cancelled up to the day before or day of arrival with no penalty. But if you decide to book with a travel discount website, be sure you know the penalty in cancellation just in case it happens to you.
So glad all found this site. But do you know that only about 10-15 percent of the SRs in a PIR group are represented on this site? Sad, right? So many families go through Bootcamp with no support. They just don't now about this site. I googled to find support when my son left back in 2009 and that is how I found this!
On writing to your SRs....just remember, ladies, that their mail is held for 2 weeks until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer for their division is trained. They usually get to write to you right before they get this held mail, so your letters may say Why haven't your written? Don't panic...they will have received your letters right after they wrote that. Once they receive these held mail and write the first time, they get to continue to write once a week (Sunday collection) and will receive mail M-F.
Good Morning!
Elizabeth: Glad you'll be trying to win Trivia Tuesday. I know absolutely nothing about Navy history, or Navy anything, except what I've learned from N4M. Would be nice if someone from Division 936 would win, but I'd be excited for anyone whose PIR is 7/18.
