cheryl: Even if he is staying at GL, you would only get weekend visitation (daytime) with him, most likely. They won't allow that after the weekend.
My guess on the safety of movie theaters is that all theaters will "step up" security now...so to see a move after PIR may be one of the safest times to do this! Sounded like this guy came in from the emergency exit? How did that happen? Wondering if he bought a ticket, went in and cracked the door, left, and got back in that way? But I thought those doors had alarms on them? Well, I bet there will be major changes now. I know that at the last movie I went to see (and like Lala, I rarely go because it is expensive), the usher came down at the beginning of the movie and checked to make sure the emergency exit doors were shut. So very very sad...prayers for all affected by this.
My step-daughter and friends were supposed to go to the midnight showing last night and she decided she was too tired. I know it didn't happen here but I am still glad she didn't go. I guess now movie theaters may end up with metal detectors and as a result a much higher price to get in. We hardly ever go to the movies because it is already so expensive.
Good Morning to all my 7/27 PIR friends. Just thinking..... this time next week we will have already met and will be sitting in the graduation hall waiting to see our loved ones!!! It just gives me chills!!!!!!
Have a great Friday....see ya soon!!!!
diannep thanks for the clarification on A school. I just wish I had planned on staying a little longer so that I could spend more time w/him before he goes in. But, for all I know he may not be granted any holiday except for the weekend.
Lala thanks for the update. I can't wait to see them. I am going to wear it proudly.
Prayers also going out to everyone in CO. I just heard about it then read Lala's post. Maybe I'm the only one, but I swear everytime I go to the movies, which isn't much, it always on my mind. Man, someone could just come in here & take all of us out & know one would know anything because it's so loud & dark. Everytime I see someone just walking around or the door open if I'm w/in view I'm watching. I've always been like that since I had my oldest (the one graduating who's about to turn 20). Once children starting shooting each other in school's, buildings, & college's I've been on guard. I am so glad he's in a good place right now. We were going to go watch some movies while we were visiting but now I'm starting to rethink that? My son loves movies & is excited to watch Batman & a few others.
Prayers going out to all the families affected by the shooting at the movie theater just after midnight last night in CO. Only 20 miles from the Columbine shooting. 12 people have died and 50 or more are injured. So sad that someone can do something like this to another person. And how can he walk in with guns, tear gas and a gas mask?
Thanks so much Loriemae, I am so glad yuou love them and I know you will wear them proudly. cheryl, you should get yours today :-)
Good Morning all! 7 days! Can't wait to meet all of you! No letter yesterday :( I did talk to her best friend and she received a letter stating her A school does not start until 8/10 ??? She did not mention sticking around GL. She made it sound like she would go right to San Antonio and wait there until it started.
I was a little bummed that I did not get a letter but...I found someone on FB that she mentioned in the form letter. We have been messaging back and forth a little...so last night I got a message from them and they said that they wanted me to know that my daughter was a great girl and has taken their SR under her wing. Talk about emotions flowing! I can't imagine what I will be like when I actually see her!
I am out of town for the week-end so that will help me get through 1 LAST week-end before it is OUR turn!
cheryl: A Schools are different lengths of time depending on their rate/classes. If he mentioned coming home in Dec, he is probably talking about for "leave." They go on "stand down" at the bases usually during the holidays and many are allowed to come home. He will find out more about this once he is at A School.
I'm surprised that they are "holding" them at GL but probably means that there is not room for them at the A School base yet. Many times, they are flown to A School base and then are on hold until they can "class up". One friend of ours was on hold in Pensacola for about 2-3 mos before classing up. I don't think it is normally that long though.
When they arrive at their A School, they go through Indoc (Indoctrination). This is actually done anytime they change bases. They become familiar with the base, the rules, their requirements, etc. Usually lasts for several days or more.
lala - we got our Ribbons....they are absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to wear them.
We got a letter today...our SR sounds so good. He wrote last Sunday and talked about the upcoming week. He excited and anxious to do a good job with all their final stuff.
He got his orders for A School and has to report to Pensacola on 8/12. He didn't say if that means he stays at GL until then but he did say that he hopes that means he will have weekend Liberty after grad. Oh, I hope so too!!!
Veteran Moms - Have you ever seen this happen...if his orders are for 8/12 does that mean he would stay in GL until then???? If so, what would he do. I know there are online things he has to do for A School....would he do that at GL? Oh, just when I think I understand...I have more questions...lol.
