Dang...OhWendy...you just reminded me of when I sent my oldest (our Sailor) went off to Camp for the first time when he was ten. No cell phones allowed (I don't think we even had any! LOL)...no phone calls allowed...unless it was an emergency. I was told that when he got to the Camp...he asked his Counselor (it was with our Church and it was a Dad) if he could call his dad...the Counselor said, "For the next week...I am your Dad!" He didn't get to call home! He had a great time and looked like "Pig Pen" when he got home...apparently, showering was an option!
scotts mom that is great. Makes me want to leave work now and get home to check the mail. So happy to hear he is doing great. I truly hope the same for my son.
Guess what!!!!! Got my letter today from my son from SHIP 13 DIV 229 and he is doing great! Made friends, passed all tests on the first attempt and is a section leader and head of laundry (really - laundry?) Be watching the mailbox this week as we only live 90 miles from Great Lakes so that is why it arrived so fast! May God keep watch over our sons and daughters and give them all they need to get through the next 6 weeks!
scottsmom: OmahaRudy's explanation is right on. Although very sad that they can't always call home on holidays, it is the way of the military. Just know that they were thinking of their dads on Sunday and I'm sure wanted more than anything to be able to talk to them!
Thinking that letters for this group could start arriving this week. I have a feeling that they got to write on Fathers Day. I guess we shall see! Remember, mail is held from them for the first two weeks (training of the Recruit Mail Petty Officer)...so they may have received their first mail delivery on Fathers Day and may have been allowed to write for the first time then as well. Letters would have been mailed out yesterday....so keep an eye on those mailboxes this week!
Omaha- thanks for your comment, We have to remind ourselves that it's not like when they were little and went off to summer camp and could call home, just because. I love the No News is Good News. I tell myself that everyday.
No word from my son yet. Our U.S. Global Force for Good is a 24/7, 365 day per year effort so I imagine BC is truly preparing them for that kind of thinking -- which means little regard for holidays and special days. That doesn't mean it isn't hard on us or them, just the way it is.
If they are beginning their week 3 now I have to think we'll be hearing something pretty soon. Doesn't the anticipation always make things better? I'm going to go with that thought and continue repeating my mantra, "No news is good news!" That said, I will shout it from the rafters when I get word :)
Not yet. From what I have read from others who have been through this already, it could be another week or so before they can call.
has anyone gotten a call or hand wrote letter with this graduation date yet? We got the initial form letter and box of belongings but nothing more. not even a call or letter on fathers day :(
I hope you are all enjoying your Tuesday!
Good Morning and happy Tuesday everyone. I hope you all have a beautiful day.
