many of the divisions with PIR in this PIR group are the same numbered divisions that had PIR when my daughter did two years ago. They repeat the division numbers each year :-)

Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:

I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.

It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)

Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).

It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.

Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):

They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:

Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!

The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area.

Thanks for the tips! I need to start making my shopping list.
Comment by diannep on June 8, 2012 at 5:49pm

OmahaRudy:  juliebelle, Lala, and FTLW all stayed at Navy Lodge and enjoyed it.  Betsy and I stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan and enjoyed that.  So it is up to you!  Residence, Springhill Suites, and Courtyard are close to Sarge's MeetNGreet which will be the night before PIR.

Ellen0502, yes I know Elkhorn. It's right down the road from me. Small world and I bet it will be getting smaller! Thanks for the info in the Exchange! I cannot wait to get there :)

Yes Dianne, I changed my name. Is the Navy Lodge a good choice?
Comment by ellen0502 on June 8, 2012 at 8:55am

OmahaRudy, do you know Elkhorn? That is where my immediate family on my mothers side lives.

Yes, the NEX is filled with Navy things, but lots of the Navy stuff is for the "outsiders".

I bought the best "Navy Mom" hoodie at the NEX on the base at PIR.

Like diannep said, the Navy Lodge gives you a pass to shop at the NEX (limited shopping, no tobacco or liquor) and you can go without your SR as soon as you get there.

Comment by diannep on June 8, 2012 at 8:17am

OmahaRudy:  Ok, you changed your name on us!  I THOUGHT your pik looked familiar as the creator of the group, but the name changed!  HA!  Thanks again for creating the group.

If you stay at the Navy Lodge, you will get a guest pass to shop at the smaller NEX in the area w/out your sailor present.  Otherwise, with you sailor, you have access to the other NEXs in the area.  There is a larger one off base (Greenbay Rd) that has a larger selection than the one at RTC.  So you may want to shop there with your sailor!

Good morning all!

Some friends and I have started a group on facebook that is private. You can come to our group and we will be there to answer questions when you need us and you can post comments and meet other friends there who also have recruits at bootcamp. I am trying to figure out if you have to be a facebook friend of mine in order to join the group. So if anyone would like to join this group whether you have a recruit in bootcamp or you are a mom who has been through it already and would to help let me know. try this link and see if it will let you request to join. If not let me know on here and I will add you as a friend on facebook to get you into the group.   https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/  I know it is working because lots have already joined it :-) You just have to promise to come back to this page daily and post comments and get to know your PIR group and DIV members :-)

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on June 7, 2012 at 11:32pm

Omaha- there will be lots of people join this group as soon as they find out their PIR date and DIV. And yes, you can shop at the NEX the day of PIR :-)

Hello everyone! I'm not a veteran Mom :). I think it's great that you are all here to help get things going! I'm probably just an early joiner for this division. I haven't gotten an official letter so I wonder if anyone else has, either. My son's recruiter provided the ship and division just a week after he left. I bet more will be joining.

I'm already excited to meet this Sarge I've been reading about and get my hands on some "proud Navy Mom" stuff. Will we get to shop at the Exchange or is the area filled with Navy things? I'm thinking window clings, license plate guards, you know, things that will brand me Navy proud!
