That's a good point dianne. I did not know that about the airlines. It's nice that they do it at all when you think about it, what with security issues and all.
Guess I' m going to have to put together a post about meeting your Sailor at the airport! I know I found some discussions about it and then I can add what you just posted. THEN all the veterans can "tweak" it until it is "just right". Our goal is ALWAYS to get the correct info to everyone!

I have started a discussion Ship 11 Div 244 to try and connect with all the loved ones whose SR is in this Div. I have never done anything like this but since my SR is off trying new things I figured I better start trying too. Please reply and lets support our SR's together and gather as much information as possible about how they are doing   I have received 2 letters and one 10 min. phone call.He is doing well but He didn't really talk about the Div..Has any body heard from there SR on how our div is doing? Who is going to PIR 08/05/2011? I am!

bobbie;  He'll get them, bobbie.  Don't worry.  If they changed the ship number, they will forward that mail to it.  Don't worry.

lisaladybug:  There's your answer.  Seems that they moved the ones in 249/250--brother divisions which mean they live in same ship/train together-- to another ship (from 9 to 3).  Div numbers stayed the same, and those are reallly the most important.

Just want to point out something about airport visits.  You all do not automatically "get clearance" to go to the gates with them.  It is totally up to the airlines, which tries to accommodate families of sailors.  But if a sailor's family group includes alot of people, they aren't all guaranteed passes to the gate.  The Navy wants you all to realize that the gate pass issuance is strictly up to the airlines.

Having said that, they love their sailors in Chicago, and will do their best to accomplish this.  We hear good reports on this site about that.  Please make sure to have ID for all in your group.  Your sailor must be with you to get this pass.

CJG and CNM-you can take those items that your SR may have at "A" school to the airport and make the transfer there. They may not take them back to RTC at night when they return. Usually, they may not have civilian clothes right away. WITH the exception of UNDERWEAR! No more tighty whities! YAY! there are "phases" in "A" school and those progress as they do what they need to to earn them.

Typically, ALL Sailors that are Saturday Departures are bussed to the AP by 1-2 AM....regardless of when their flight is. Could be a few hours...could be all day. Your SR may not know their flight info until PIR day.

The Gurnee Mall is nearby RTC. About fifteen minutes. They can get a new cell there. Most like to go there after PIR. Gotta do the Sailor Swagger!

Ladies, just like CJG's has told her, your SR is going to be the best source of what they can and cannot do and what they can and cannot have. Believe me they are drilled in it!

Always address your letters the WAY it is written in the FORM letter that your SR sent you. Their return address that THEY write on the letters that they send you may be different. It's like that. My DH, who is deployed, his letters to me have a different addy then the one I address them too.

At least the Ship changed......not the Division.  :-)  I am sure the letters will get to your son soon - (if not already).  From my experience, they start getting their mail not to long after they send their first letter home.
