You all remember....you are in the very hard time of bootcamp, as are they. The beginning is rough...there is lots of yelling, lots of shots, exams, more yelling...lots of getting used to things....more yelling (seeing a pattern here?)...but remember...by about week 4 of training, there is a turnaround when the "breakdown" process is completed and they start building them into sailors.
Remember that they are with other SRs from every walk of life, different pasts and experiences, different ages and backgrounds, differences in academic ability and physical ability...and the RDCs must get them all on "the same page." But by week 4,(HELL week because of how early they get up and all of the inspections, etc) your SRs see the finish line and want that NAVY cap more than ever. Of course, we miss them and the contact with them. But it is necessary to cut all of that off to change them into team members and top sailors...don't worry, in A School, contact with them is back!!! YAH!
Also, remember this....if they were home right now, would they be out? Did you worry then that they might get into an accident, or in trouble somehow? Did you find you couldn't sleep until they were home? Well, know this: They are safe where they are. They are being well taken care of....medically, dentally, physically (meals, exercise, sleep, hygiene, etc)...they have everything they need there...except for YOU! Just keep those letters going out to them, always encouraging them. Try not to talk about how much you miss them and are hurting as that will make them worry about you. Try to keep any negative news from them...they don't need that right now. They have to be focused. There is so much to learn in such a brief amount of time. So just remember....lots of prayers and constant encouragment! Write everyday if you can and get others to write them. Mail is held from them for the first 2 weeks, but they really look forward to it. Many compare it to "Christmas morning" when they receive mail.
Hang in there, ladies....in just a few short weeks, you will be so excited that you can't stand it because they will almost be sailors! And...PIR is absolutely one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have...trust me on that one.
HOOYAH!
