CorysNavyMom, maybe you are referring to the Shedd Aquarium. It's right on Lake Shore Drive a little less than 40 miles south of RTC. So, it is within the 50 mile radius limit that SRs are allowed to go. Estimated drive time is about an hour, not taking into account traffic delays (do not underestimate Chicago rush hour... it is utterly horrendous!).
Theraysmom, Sears Tower (now called Willis Tower) is awesome. It's also less than 40 miles south of RTC, and is about 50 minutes travel time (again, not factoring in rush hour).
Nan, I am not going to make any grand plans either. The only preference my son has indicated so far is that he could definitely go for some major pampering when he gets "outa" there. I can do that!!! :0))
I am still getting several messages from people who are having trouble with the email on this site who are wanting to order ribbons to wear to PIR. It is definitely not too late to order. I would like to get as many as possible mailed before I leave for my Honeymoon so if you know you want ribbons and have not ordered them yet please let me know ASAP. I can make them and have them in the mail by this Thursday afternoon. Thanks so much, if you have tried to contact me and I have not responded please send me an email to uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com.
Thanks, Lala
Is anyone flying into O'hare on 8/04 ? I will be and am traveling alone, wish I could hook up with others to finish out the trip. I will not be renting a car and do not really want to do a taxi alone. If interested in meeting to continue our trip together please let me know.
Got a list from the website on 10 sites to see in Chicago One thing that I havent see anyone mention is the Sears building.I am just so excited to see my SR's face that what ever else we do it all right with me. My son is a Sports freak so I hope we get to tour Wrigley field. In our house was have 4 people and 3 base ball teams.
I agree about the website being kind of quiet this weekend. I just read alot of what is going on with others as I have a hard time with the weekends to much time to think and this not being able to talk to him is hard. I knew it would be hard but it is been harder for me in the last week or so. I thought it would easier but not for me yet. of course I say none of this to my SR I just write him his letter daily and count the time till PIR.25 days
I got a call from my SR at 7:30 pm his time. He had about five minutes to call and tried his girlfriend and again, she missed his call again (poor things...both of them) but because she didnt answer I got about 3 minutes for an "I love you guys, miss you and cant talk but everything is ok." I asked him why he only had a few minutes and said I sent him a phone card, didnt he get it? He said yeah he did, but it was an earned call...but not HIS earned call. Someone gave it to him. THANK YOU to whom ever that was...but hope that person wasnt supposed to call home and his family wasnt waiting to hear from him/her. Anyway, I said to him that I thought he sounded more chipper than last time and he said "yeah, I'm not a grad n go anymore...so Im all good!"
Sistersue, I had thought about Six flags with my SR but Grandma and Grandpa arnt going to want to ride rides. Maybe Sunday we could pull that off though. Not sure how late they are staying that day. Although my husband isnt a rider either and I dont want anyone left out.
I am almost positive we are doing Navy Pier though! And there is supposed to be some Marine place we might go because SR's girlfriend is going to school for Marine biology.
So I got the flash light they can take to A school. Forwarning...it was $20 and there wasnt anything cheaper. Just a more expensive one at $30 that has the lenses built in. I got the $20 one that the lenses are interchangable and attach to the bottom when not in use. Oh...this was at Walmart.
