I received a letter from my son that he is changing jobs. He was slated for Airman training and has decided instead he wants to be a Master at Arms (Navy's MP). Apparently he was named the Recruit Weapons Petty Officer over his division and has done really well with the shooting, weaponry portion of boot camp.
Not sure what to think of this. Part of me is disappointed, because I thought his career options as a Airman seemed more promising (and safe). It seemed like he would have higher rank, more options, etc. Also, A school for Airman training is in Pensacola, and as a Floridian, he would be a 8 hour drive away, and I was excited about being able to see him quite a bit and that probably won't happen as a MA. Then again, part of me is happy for him, because, if he wasn't talking about military duty, his "Plan B" was law enforcement. So, it has been on his mind for along time, and ultimately, I want him to be happy with what he is doing. And, at the end of the day, he is an adult...and has to make his own decisions.
So looking forward to PIR!!

Just to let you all know. Don't worry about them passing BattleStations....even if they don't (and most do, sometimes whole divisions), they will go through again and pass. The important thing to pass, that keeps some from making their PIR date, is the final PFA (fitness). The run is the part that delays some....even the swim, but not as often as the run. They must pass this final PFA no matter what they did on the first two tests. Even if they don't pass, they are able to try up until Wed before PIR and still be at their PIR. Some may have to do BattleStations the night before PIR in that case, which means after being up all night, they will be at PIR but in the balcony....too tired to march (but in uniform!).
Hoping that all of your SRs pass with flying colors!
