I received a letter from my son that he is changing jobs. He was slated for Airman training and has decided instead he wants to be a Master at Arms (Navy's MP). Apparently he was named the Recruit Weapons Petty Officer over his division and has done really well with the shooting, weaponry portion of boot camp.

Not sure what to think of this. Part of me is disappointed, because I thought his career options as a Airman seemed more promising (and safe). It seemed like he would have higher rank, more options, etc. Also, A school for Airman training is in Pensacola, and as a Floridian, he would be a 8 hour drive away, and I was excited about being able to see him quite a bit and that probably won't happen as a MA. Then again, part of me is happy for him, because, if he wasn't talking about military duty, his "Plan B" was law enforcement. So, it has been on his mind for along time, and ultimately, I want him to be happy with what he is doing. And, at the end of the day, he is an adult...and has to make his own decisions.

So looking forward to PIR!!

JMom, that is interesting. I did not even know you could switch career tracks while in BC. My son is also ship 13 div 305. I have not heard from him in a while. Did your son say anything else about his division, etc?
He said that they seem to be doing ok. He mentioned that he is tired of getting yelled at for not folding his blanket in a 90 degree angle. Ha ha. what is your son's first name? Are you going to PIR?
My son's name is Dan. We are going to PIR. I am very excited for that. I am concerned about not hearing from Danny. There is another mom also with this ship and division on this site and her name is Diane. We exchange any info that we have concerning their division. So if I hear anything I will let you know also. Yikes, making beds was never one of Dan's strong points!
My son's name is Jordan. And in his entire life I think he made his bed half a dozen times (one of those things that didn't seem worth the fight at the time). Lol. I will definitely stay in touch!
Hi JMom, I am on my way home from a 2 week trip. I don't think there is any mail from Dan because I had one of my other sons check for me. If and when I hear from him I will let you know. I will put in his next letter that I am friends with Jordan's mother. Last night my friend Diane who also has a son in the same division said she received a call that his PIR was changed to 8/23. No other info. I have travel arrangements and work schedule all set up to attend 8/16. I hope Dan's doesn't change.
Wow! I feel for Diane. We really won't know for sure until they pass battle stations 21. I would be so disappointed if Jordan's PIR was moved back. I can't wait to see him on 8/16!!!
I also feel very bad for her. I am not sure what to say. And yes, I also hope that battle stations go well.
Hi JMom, Have you heard from Jordan? We received a call from Dan a few days ago, it may have been Monday eve. He still says everything is going well. I asked him what he does in his free time and he said he studies and polishes his boots. I think this time went by very fast. Next week will be here before we know it.
I received a letter from him Thurs. He said the PO for the mail lost some mail, so, he wanted to know if I'd been getting all his letters. I was so excited to have received a letter from him. Then he told me he really wanted to get pizza at this one place he's been hearing about during PIR weekend.

I think the time went by fast AND slow. Regardless, I can't wait to see him!! Hopefully we'll get to meet, too.

Just to let you all know.  Don't worry about them passing BattleStations....even if they don't (and most do, sometimes whole divisions), they will go through again and pass.  The important thing to pass, that keeps some from making their PIR date, is the final PFA (fitness).  The run is the part that delays some....even the swim, but not as often as the run.  They must pass this final PFA no matter what they did on the first two tests.  Even if they don't pass, they are able to try up until Wed before PIR and still be at their PIR.  Some may have to do BattleStations the night before PIR in that case, which means after being up all night, they will be at PIR but in the balcony....too tired to march (but in uniform!).

Hoping that all of your SRs pass with flying colors!

Yes that would be nice. I will give you my cell phone 631 278 0188. Also, my name is Peggy.
