yes she did transfer over to GL A school. she had to be there at 1, they all did, and than they were able to leave at 3, some at 4 latest.

Can Veteran Diane send me the schedule for battle stations for 11/283 Please.

Love to be prepared for THE CALL!

Yeah, she is a cutie pie...my little angel...her twin brother is just as cute, only I should say Handsome...he's completely opposite in appearance! It will be so nice to have them together on 9/1/11!!!! A very special day.

Towermom, it might have seemed cold at first, but her graduating class had 1003 SR's graduating...it was HUGE!. Lots of warm bodies! Yes, take a sweater for sure, early in the morning, especially now that it's going to be Sept. it will be chilly even standing outside waiting..and if its raining, please everyone bring a rain coat to your hotel to have options and an umbrella...or you'll be sorry...there is no cover to stand under at all. and you don't want to sit in the bldg drenched.....the NAVY doesnt care if its raining on the POOR PARENTS! Trust me! I brought a throw away poncho just in case. The ceremony started at 9:30...so if you are in line at 6:30, 7:00, it's a long time to sit in this huge, aircraft hanger type building...you just sit and sit and sit ...well and stand and stand and stand. You get to understand a little bit of what the SR's have been doing for the last 8 weeks. Also, the SR's, just so you all know, they practice the PIR one last time in the wee hours of the morning of PIR. They march over to the bldg. at 4 am and do the drill and go back before the parents get there, than when they come in the bldg at 9:30, they stand for another 2 hours for the graduation....trust me when I tell you they are tired that day...all they want to do is go to your hotel room and sit and relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough. Order Pizza and sit in your room...or order room service. They will think that is HEAVEN.

Dianne: Thanks. I was wondering if it was an extra hard week before they had their final PT's in week 6. That would be this week right?  When theypass this week then they get to participate in battle stations?

Jenelle:  When you say "processed out," did she transfer over to GL A School base after PIR?  I know we waited for my son --after taking piks at PIR--for him to return to his ship and get his piks, etc....for about 45 minutes, then he left with us.  If you are not referring to GL A School, then this is a change, I guess?

What a wonderful picture, Jenelle!  You look so proud...and she looks so happy!

She is a cutie...no matter how long her hair is!

sdfavors:  Hell week is week 4 of their training (could be 5-6 weeks after they left home).  It is a week of getting up earlier, lots of inspections, and activities...but it is also a turnaround week for them where they finally have accomplished alot and see the "prize" ahead!  So it is good!

Hi Ladies,

Any 7/290 groups? Have you heard from your SR yet? I only received the one call on the 1st of Aug., and the one letter dated 8/24. I assume he is doing well. No news is good new. I am so glad you ladies posted about PIR. It helps me plan better. I am really anxious for 9/1 to get here. More so, it would be nice for a letter to come. Was last week hell week? If so, what was hell week? I hear ladies commenting, but don;t know exactly what it is? Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

I couldnt reduce the size...but here she is....YEAH!

She misses her hair, it was longer than mine and when she saw me she said...aww, I miss my hair...but the good news is it will grow fast! I'm so proud of our SR's......

Jenelle - thanks for sharing this information.  My SRs PIR is 9/1/2011 and I can't wait.  I will definitely wear capris!!  My SR already told me to bring a sweater for myself and his grama!  Must be he knows it is a little chilly.  I can't wait.  :)

Not cold at all. I did have skirt on and a very light weight sweater, which advise...you sit on like high school bleachers, they are hard and cold on the derier..

I would wear pants! My advice on that, I had a short skirt and had to like straddle the bars in front of the bleacers, I was in the first row. Very tight seating, and I'm 6' tall and it was difficult for me to sit for two hours like that!

Pants a must!

Meeting up with SR's after PIR is tricky. You leave , they process out, mine had to be at processing at 1:00 and she called us at 2:45 and said she could be picked up at 3! they have access to pay phones for that, so don't let them wig out and say they don't know where they will call from. They have to walk about 2 miles to the gate, so even though they say 3, it takes them a moment to walk down to the gate (at the Visitors center) is where they will be picked up! Or, you can wait on site, at the Nex, or visitors center, or go to the museum and wait for them. We went back to the Ramada, sat and got a bite to eat and waited for her call. The line in the morning is like this......LONG.....the best bet is to get their early if it is raining so you can get in fast. We were waiting for the shuttle from the Ramada....what a waste of an hour. It was suppose to leave at 6:30, it didn't leave until 7:15 and we waited to be first on the shuttle so we were down at the shuttle at 6...we ended up getting a cab, for 5  a person  and he dropped us off right at the gate and than the line was about a 45 minute wait to get in and at that point, at around 7:30, the lower bleachers were already full. So if you get there late, you have to sit up stairs! But, the view is almost better upstairs if you know your SR is standing any where from the 4rth row back...I'm totally serious bout this...trust me.

Someone asked me about the Ramada. It's not the fanciest place around, but for the price, the linens were great, the beds were soft yet firm and the pillows were awesome....the meet and greet is a must...the rooms were very clean, new carpet....so, what do you want for 79.00 and the continental breakfast was over the top great for free! They had every kind of donut imaginable, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, cereal, all kinds of drinks, coffee's, it was actually on a scale of 1 - 10 an 8! They were most accomodating at the front desk.

Also, if you need transportation, the best bet is to call a taxi and they have a list at the front desk!

The train to chicago is only $6 one way and is the only way to go to town.

The bus system downtown is awesome, 2.25 per ride, takes you from union to wherever you want to go...and I highly recommend that. The bus drivers in chicago are really really nice...believe it or not.

BTW, ShellMaq, my son is also in 11/283. My daughter got to speak to him last Wed, so if you want to privately messge me I can give you some more insight on the BOYS/YOUNG MEN!

Ask away, and I'll try to help.

You all have to realize that we are heading up during a holday Weekend and it's going to be nuts to try to take them to any kind of Notable parks, or museums or go into the city. So, think twice about that. Truly, our SR's just want to chill and maybe do one thing for 4 or 5 hours, but they are TIRED and thier feet hurt!

How about a walk down Lake Michigan beaches. They have a park on the bech just north of the base. My daughter is going there next weekend and I'll get the details of that. I say, get a bucket of Kentucky Fried or Pizza or you fav. takout and go to the beach and just chill....bring your SR a change of clothes...definately!
