Booked my flights! Used Southwest just in case something changes! Thanks! We got 2 round trip for under $600 including taxes and fees! We are flying into Milwaukee as well!

I have used priceline a great deal but I always bid on my flight, I never settle for what they say the flight costs.  I have found that the best times to book flights are on Tuesday night or Wed. morning as that is usually when the prices change.  So every Tues. night and Wed. morning I would put in where and when I wanted to fly and see the difference in prices, track the prices you see to know if they are going down.  Use different sites also as they vary a great deal.  I almost did not go to my son's PIR because of the cost of the tickets, but was able to book 1 week out for over $200 less  than it had been the week before.  Like the military it is always changing sometimes up and sometimes down.

I would wait a little longer to book my flight, at least until they are half way through.  Usually by that time if they are going to be sent home you know about it but again things happen.  Most PIR on time but there are some that do not.  Milwaukee is great to fly into, it was easy to get around in and out of and back into the airport.

Sparkeys:  You are exactly right.  I think you made the wise choice with Milwaukee as your airport!  Chicago's traffic can be horrendous!
Comment by diannep on July 16, 2011 at 7:26pm
Proud AV Mom:  I agree with Sparkeys.  Book now....and hopefully with Southwest so if you have to change, it is not a problem.  For sure book your hotel...those fill up very fast during holiday weekends!
Comment by diannep on July 16, 2011 at 7:24pm
On liberty with your sailors....there is a "chance" that some of you (or all of you???) may have sailors with liberty all weekend. Fireteamleaderswife can tell you more about that since her son PIRed on Memorial Day weekend.  He thought he was flying out Fri (PIR also on Thurs)...but Tues of that week, she found out that his plans had changed and they had the weekend with him.  Thank goodness they had booked their travel through the weekend...we tell you all to do that...even if they think they are flying out right away.  PLANS CAN CHANGE!  They won't know this until right before PIR.
