sharbear:  Yes, your son will know the process to get the buddy signed out with you.  Be sure to mention it to him now (in a letter).  I know that buddy will be so excited!  You just have to stay in the 50 mile radius....so wonderful of you to do that!

Diannep, I live in Milwaukee and was planning on taking my son to see some friends, can I do that on the buddy system if my SR knows somebody that doesn't have family coming?  That is so sad to me but I guess I should know it happens. :(

Comment by diannep on August 23, 2012 at 12:30pm

To add to the liberty rules below, for those graduating sailors who have no family there, they are allowed to leave the base for liberty on the "buddy" system.  So you will see lots of sailors in the Gurnee Mall, etc, who are also enjoying liberty!

But always remember this:  If your SR/sailor has been talking about shipmates who have no one coming up for PIR, ask your SR/sailor if he/she might want to invite one or more of them to join you for at least part of the day for liberty.  Many are very grateful to be able to spend time with a family group, especially when they are missing their own family being there.

MOMOF2BOYS~ Are you coming to Sarge's? I sure hope so :)

Comment by MOMOF2BOYS on August 23, 2012 at 9:50am

@ Diane.   Thank you, just saw your post that Sarges is at Sundance.  Thank you!!!

@ Angie,   Please tell me which one is Sarges...  One says Flanagans and one says Sundance Saloon.-   Is he now at Sundance Saloon????

Wow, Lala.  Have never heard of an all-female division!  Great!  So, is 318 an all-male division?  They train together .....hmmm....hope the guys and gals can concentrate on their "Navy stuff!"  :-)

Comment by diannep on August 23, 2012 at 8:33am

Sarge's will be the most informative MeetandGreet, for sure.  And we try and guide many there.  But for those who want to attend the other two, we have heard good things about those as well.

So I don't want anyone to be hesitant to attend Ramada's or Flanigans if that works out better for you.  But if you can get to Sarge's, you won't regret it!  They are all pretty close together in distance.
