The RDC's have to schedule time at the phone room for their division. It is located all the way across base in the same building as the NEX.
Sometimes individual calls may be "earned" for exceptional performance. Have seen it from shining their boots better than the RDC to grasping folding their clothing well.
And yes...calls may also be delayed or cancelled for poor performance. Sometimes though a recruit may not get to call when his division does as they have watch or an appointment. These recruits are not guaranteed a "make up" call. :-(
That first call home can be a very emotional one for most after three or so weeks of no contact with you. So it can be an "up" and a "down" at the same time.
Every RDC is different in granting calls.
Try not to cry...its hard...but try! (I burst into tears right after I Hung up!) I know that crying is a stress reliever for us ladies, however you don't know how long that call will be and crying could set them off and that's all you'll end up doing!
So write down a few questions you would like to ask...but also let them talk. My sons first call was supposed to be 30 minutes...we got 19. You may hear yelling in the background for them to get off.

Another young man from our town is PIR 8/17 and his mother said it took him almost 4weeks to call due to his division not doing well.  Hang in there Lisa!

It seems as though they are going by division. However, it also depends on whether the RDCs are happy with them or not, if they while it's phone call time they may be on watch. There are a lot of variables...

Seems like more and more moms are getting calls. I was wondering if anyone knows who decides who gets to call home.I would love to hear my sons voice.

I am pretty sure from both of my sons letters that yesterday was 3-1 day and with the skipping of Sat and Sun, Monday will be 3-2 day. By the way they are Div-285 brother to Div-286, which to my way of understanding means they are on the same training day.
