no sharbear there is nothing wrong with keeping the box, it is however just an empty box, but it does have my sons handwriting on it and it was the first "contact" I had with him since 2/22 so yeah I kept it. I now store all the letters, stuff from PIR, and pictures from PIR in it until I can get his scrap book going.

Thanks Lala I think I will leave that FB group. :) I'm not sure, but it feels like they are sort of reeling you in and then gonna try to sell you something, hahahaha.

Proudmomof2, I only found one with this PIR date. It is a closed group and I am not a member of it. All I know is the people who started that group seem to be starting a PIR and DIV group for every PIR. Not sure what their reason is.

We prefer for someone who actually has a recruit in a PIR Group to start the closed facebook group and someone who has a recruit from a specific division to start those groups as well. It is important to know how you came to find out about a group. Anyone can start any group on facebook. So some people will do a search for their date, find a group and join it. There is no way to know who is in the group or why. So just be careful. If you are not comfortable leave the group. You can start your own group and invite others from this page to join. If someone seems like they shouldn't be there you can remove them from the group.

No matter what you do be careful what you post. And always always come back to this page and post comments and let other hear about your letters and calls and ask questions here. There are some moms and other members who refuse to use Facebook and they would like to get to know everyone here as well. So it is important to stay connected to them.

but please join us on our facebook group. there are others there who have the same PIR and I am sure they would love to get to know you. You will have to ask to join but it doesn't take long to get accepted. https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/

Yaay! Got my form letter! No extra writing, though. Now if that dang box would come I'd be all set!

Sharbear~ hang in there, yours is coming!

Lala~ thanks for the info, I appreciate it! When I tried to join and saw the lock, I got nervous!

Sharbear: I just looked at my sons box (yes I have kept it) and the form letter from him. He was in the last division to be formed for his TG and was on p-hold. He got there on Feb 22 box shipped the 23rd I received it the 29th. His form letter was postmarked March 2nd I didn't get it until March 9th, so it was 16 days from when he left.

Hang in there, I bet you get it this week...send no glitter yet. LOL

Lalal - I also joined a FB page and now I'm a little paranoid. It's called PIR 9/7/2012. It seems legit but I honestly cannot remember how I maneuvered my way to the That pages. Lol I have been reading stuff everywhere so, who knows how I got. I tend to do the same thing when I'm driving. Haha. Can you advise me as to whether this is a legit page?

Lala that is AWESOME!! That envelope/card comment going in next letter :)
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on July 23, 2012 at 7:22pm

sharbear, what you could do is write your recruit and tell him that the recruiter said he would be happy to call the "powers that be" and ask them to make sure he writes you a letter. I bet he would put pen to paper very quickly and get a letter to you saying to please not do that lol. Or tell him if he doesn't write soon you are going to send a musical card in a bright pink envelope with hearts and flower drawn all over the back lol. Maybe then he would get one in the mail lol. Try not to worry, I bet this week will be much better for letters for all of you.

em'smom Okay, that facebook page is fine. There are more than two hundred Navy Mom, wives etc including myself. There are lots of veteran moms there to help answer questions and lots who have had PIR in the last couple of months and several from every PIR group now waiting to graduate. You do not have to be a member of this site (Navy for Moms) to join it. It may be that someone from your PIR group invited you to join. You do have to request to be in the group because it is closed so that people who are not members cannot read the posts. So it is a little safer but you still need to not give specific dates for ship or Sailor movement and not share too many details about your Sailors personal information. There is also a Navy For Moms Facebook group and a Navy Moms PIR group that appear to be pretty safe. I am also part of those groups. So it will be fine to join us there if you like :-)
