Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I agree with CatMom: Keeping that phone on ring/vibrate in your bra may keep you from missing any calls! They are so very random...can come at any time....

Comment by diannep on July 29, 2014 at 8:26am: Austinsmom: Be sure to be checking Southwest into Chicago Midway and Milwaukee. Milwaukee may be cheaper, drive is faster, no traffic, car rental is usually cheaper. There is no change fee on Southwest if your SR is delayed, 2 bags check for free!

That's too bad you missed a couple of calls from your SR. Please make sure your phone is fully charged at all times. A low battery will cause calls to go directly into voice mail~~ Here's to picking up the next call!

Calls can come at any time of the week or weekend. Keep your phones with you all the time during Boot Camp--upstairs, downstairs, in the bathroom, in another part of your house, in the garage, out for the mail, out in the backyard...no predicting. I keep mine on my night stand when I sleep to catch that early morning call. For the west coast, they come in between 6:00 am - 6:00 pm; Central time in Great Lakes, 8:00 am - 8:00 pm; and east coast, 9:00 am - 9:00 pm~~

If you're going somewhere loud like a restaurant, or need to be quiet, like church or a movie theater, put your cell phone on "Vibrate" and put in your pocket--or bra!
