Hi everyone I am one of the volunteers here to help you through this experience :) I know how hard this is for so many of you. And as hard as it is to believe the boot camp time will pass pretty quickly. I was a mess when my daughter was there. I didn't have much time to prepare because she was only in DEP one month and then she was gone. I was always wondering what she was doing and how she was but it all turned out great and it is so hard for me to believe it has been more than three years. Now she is a Sailor and is married to a Sailor and they just had their first baby and my first grand baby on Wednesday <3 and she is absolutely perfect. I have been here helping others get through this experience since she graduated and I love it.  I always say the days drag by but the weeks pass quickly so, try to find something fun to do and stay busy. If you have little ones at home there are several things you can do to make this journey a little easier for the, Make a paper chain with a link for each day they have left in boot camp and let them remove one link each day. It will help them see that this is only temporary. Other have also put a quarter in a jar for every day left and each week allowed the child/children to use the money for an ice-cream cone or even for a special card to send to their recruit, gumballs or gummy bears in a jar work well too and they get a tiny little treat each day. So many things can make it a better experience for them.  Welcome to your PIR group, we are happy to have you here.

Just got a phone call!!! Ship 9, Div 341. Keep those phones ready. He sounded great. So excited to hear his voice. Made my weekend. :)

I had two sons that previously went through boot camp, and the calls came randomly. My first son actually wrote and told us when he would call the first time, but I seem to remember both of them called in the late afternoon, and it was always a different day. I keep my phone on at all times and the volume turned up. I can't want to hear from my current SR.

so sad....no box or letter today.  I am thinking because I have to get mail at PO box so it will come regular usps and not Fed Ex....recruiter gave me 9/13 for PIR and ship 2 944 DIV so I sent my letters anyway.

AnchorsAweigh:  When my son was up there, he made some calls on Saturdays....they can come from morning to late afternoon so keep that phone close just in case!

JDsMom:  I believe you can use a birth certificate/social security card for kids that young since they don't have a photo ID.

Anybody know maybe what time of day SRs could call? I know I have heard a lot of Saturdays, but I was wondering what time some people have gotten calls?

That's funny, Jakes Mom. I'm wondering about the airport and those gate passes. My SR's sisters will be going (14 and 7). They don't have any kind of photo id's. Their schools don't use photo id's. I know I can take the 14 yr old to to the DMV, but where to get Id for 7 year old?
