Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

LEAVE

Each Sailor (Actually all branches of service) acquires 2.5 Leave days per month. So for the Military Fiscal year (Oct 1 - Sept 31) that's 30 days of leave.

Leave has to be put in for and approved.

Leave is like civilian vacation (earned time off). Liberty, (what your new Sailors have on PIR weekend) is regular time off from the work day.

While in BC your Recruits will acquire 5 days of Leave time, since BC is considered Active Duty.

There is usually no Leave between BC and A school nor during A school (the classes are on a schedule). There are exceptions during the Holiday times.

Here is a great BLOG Post by AntiM (Retired Navy) about Leave and Liberty:

Leave vs. Liberty

Reservists do not acquire Leave throughout the year, UNLESS they are deployed and switched to Active Duty Status. The Leave time can be taken for actual Leave during the Active duty (if it works out that way) OR they may cash it out...at least that was how it was when my Hubby deployed 4 years ago :-)

Thank you so much for her bday wishes...she's actually coming back earlier the week of PIR, so she will be able to attend her brother's PIR. Take care.

What is the 30 day leave?

Comment by SailorW'sWife on August 26, 2015 at 5:03pm
Does the 30 day leave start during A school or are they not allowed leave until after all their schooling and they're stationed?
Comment by westgate01! on August 26, 2015 at 4:53pm

Yes diannep he is staying there so great thank you for letting us know..we purposely delayed our flight so we could go with him.  :)

CJDA:  Wow, alot to handle.  I know it is hard when you can't see them, especially on a birthday.  I missed 2010, 2011, 2012 birthdays with my sailor son.  However, since he was stateside....I could communicate with him.  Being a military family is not easy!  Lots of sacrifices....just as the sailors are sacrificing for all of us!   Happy Birthday to her today!  I hope you celebrate big time after PIR!
