Good morning everyone, I hope you all are doing well and I hope you are writing lots of letters to your recruits. The highlight of their day is mail call. They get your letters and go to their rack to read them. The letters give them the encouragement to get through the next day. And just when they feel like it is too hard and they may not make it they have another mail call and more letters from you :) So keep that pen flowing. It is also a great idea to write and extra letter of encouragement and put it in with your letter. Just ask your recruit to give it to a shipmate who is not receiving any mail. It is so sad that there are many who never get mail. Have a great weekend :)

DeAnn:  I know it is so hard with no contact, but hang in there....the letters and/or calls are coming.  These first few weeks are so very busy for them, lots of yelling going on, etc.  I think when my son was there, I received my first letter 3-4 weeks after he was there.  It is different with each division per the RDCs so hard to gauge when calls will come.....but letters will be coming soon!

for those who have a recruit in the performing division here is some info for you :)

Performing divisions info:

There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.

Catmom, you could try calling your post office when you have a larger package that is prepaid and schedule a pickup. At least i would give that a try.

Well no letter today either... I give up. This is really awful. over 3 weeks in and no word. No phone call no letter no nothing. I am seriously going to lose it. I know his recruiters keep saying no new is good news but that's not doing it for me anymore :,(    No one in the family has received a letter not even his girlfriend.

That sounds about right then bm826. If it was postmarked on 8/5 at 3pm that means it didn't ship out from the plant until late on the 5th or early am on the 6th then 3 days for delivery puts it at a thursday if they are working hard and/or volume is low for first class mail. Friday if they are not working hard and/or volume is high for first class mail.

bm826 what is the date on the postmark.. 3pm Carol Stream but what date?  or 8/5 or 8/6
