Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on August 6, 2013 at 1:39pm: Please call the hotels directly to ask for their Navy Bootcamp Graduation rate. Compare this with any other discount rates you are entitled to (we used our AAA at Residence).

Comment by diannep on August 6, 2013 at 1:38pm: MeetandGreets are held the night before PIR (for families/friends of the sailors, no sailors will be there....children are welcome....the food is free to you ....Sarge pays for his food out of his own pocket so if you would like to donate when there, you can, but not required). MeetandGreets are around 5:30 to 8:30 or so....each one is different. You can look to the right of this page and see them listed for the other PIR groups (same ones each week). Sarge's is the largest and will have the most info....hotels near his that have been recommended are:

Springhill Suites,

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn

Holiday Inn Express

These are all near a big Walmart center with restaurants there also. About 4-5 miles from RTC. Waukegan/Gurnee area. All have the PIR shuttle (Sarge has a shuttle also).

Ramada has a MeetandGreet also. Flanagans does too, but we have not heard really good things about theirs lately. Sarge's is the one most enjoy and find helpful with his info.

Comment by diannep on August 6, 2013 at 1:32pm: Sarge's MeetandGreet will be a great place to meet each other! Nametags can have your screen name here on them...plus your REAL name. So plan to finally connecting faces/bodies with the posts here! You will also meet some at PIR since you will be sitting in division sections. Just remember....N4Moms only has about 10-15 percent of the sailors represented in a PIR group. Most there will not know about this site. So please share the news with them! This site is a great help to those with sailors in A and C School and in the fleet also!

Comment by diannep on August 6, 2013 at 1:27pm: SoCalNavyMom: You will see people with shirts like that at PIR. You can wear it to the MeetandGreet also. There is no true dress code for PIR....we recommend dressy casual, if that makes sense. Nice jeans are ok, pants, skirts, dresses, etc. There will be many with tshirts proclaiming their pride for their sailors...others may have on nice shirts/blouses. Some may look like they just left a "club"----others like they literally just walked off the beach. So you can't go wrong in the way you dress! Just make sure that you have on comfortable shoes...a good deal of walking will be happening that day. And remember that seating is in the bleachers. Other than that, GO FOR IT! :-)

I'm so excited, but I didn't want to be not dressed nice enough or too dressed up. LOL... I'm stressing on minor details. I probably just want an excuse to go buy a few new outfits. Retail Therapy since I am missing my boy :D

Comment by 2timenavymom ship11-366 on August 6, 2013 at 12:56pm: You will meet people. I went to my daughters and meet quite a few from our group. As far as clothes it is strictly up to u. Be comfortable cause you are sitting on bleachers, like in a high school gym. I wore navy mom stuff.

I wonder if any of us we actually meet each-other? I'm sure they're tons and tons of people. Another question.... What should we wear?

Comment by krislix on August 6, 2013 at 12:34pm: My husband left on 7/25 and his graduation is 9/27. Can't wait! He is on Ship 13 DIV 363. Coming from WA state and working on plans for our stay. Anyone gotten any advice where to stay/rent a car/eat?

Comment by 2timenavymom ship11-366 on August 6, 2013 at 12:25pm: If you want to go to the meet n greet it is on thurs. this is where we will meet each not our SR. It is normally around 6pm. My husband and I are staying at the navy lodge. Thurs -Sun. Be prepared for your SR to fly out Sat to school and if they don't then it's a bonus. My daughter graduated two years ago. We got five hrs or so with her on Fri after grad then the dropped her at the Airport at two in the morning aprox 12 hrs before her flight left for school, so we just hung out at the airport with her. Navy lodge is very nice and clean. You can make reservation online. Good luck
