Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Navy Gateway is on the A School base and you have to have military ID to stay there. Navy Lodge accepts families of graduating sailors without military ID.

Comment by xrosaelenax on August 16, 2013 at 11:34am: So I am a little confused, when I go to a link provided by the navy website I get sent to Navy Gateway Inn. It's a place where I can stay on base for graduation but everyone on here keeps talking about the Navy Lodge? Are these the same place?

Comment by Pa Mom (div 368) LS sailor on August 16, 2013 at 10:57am: I am so excited made our reservations at the Navy Lodge for Sept 26 to Sept 30 I can't believe we will get time to spend with our son. I thought we would be lucky to get a few hours. Happy mom here. Now if I could just get a call or letter that would make things so much better. I guess we are learning patience. At least I don't feel alone thanks to this site. Thank you to all those who make it possible to be here.

Also, ships 03 367 and 368 have not been heard from either. I also know ship 09 div 370 sill nothing. :( Maybe todays the day.

My granddaughter is in 365 and we haven't had any phone calls or letters. Her mother just wants to hear something so badly. Of course we all do. Please post if you hear anything? Also I saw that someone commented that their son bought a calling card there? We are gonna send her one but wondered if she could buy one there if it doesn't make it in time before she gets to call..
