N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My sons PIR is 9/27. I've only heard from him once the night he got there! I miss him so much! How many of you have heard from your children or loved ones?

He is an IC (Interior Communications) His A schooling is weird. It has two different classes combined to be about 100 days before he actually does what is considered his A School.

NVYWIFE22, he is an EN (enginemen) which was consolidated  with the MM rating now known as MM. What is your husbands rating?

NICKSMOM. I wish we could drive! Would be so much easier. What's your sons rating??

Navymom17 and christinamarie: Our son used one of the calling cards from 'Calls for Recruits"this past weekend and it worked wonderful. However, they are only 20 minutes. It gives you both a verbal warning with 1 minute to go and then disconnects the call when minutes are used. I sent extra for him to give out to others who may need them.

navymom17 and christinamarie, I had sent my son a calling card (got mine  at Rite aids 350 minutes) but he had just bought one at the NEX himself said he would use that one first then use mine. I am sending him more stamps this week. As I know he has many letters from family and friends coming his way.

christinamarie No he hasn't used them yet and I was wondering same thing. I may end up sending him a calling card too

NVYWIFE22, my SR is staying in great lakes for A school as well. His PIR is 9/27/13. I have made plans to stay until Monday. We are driving so our schedule is flexible. If he doesn't have much time on Sunday to spend with us then we can leave Sunday afternoon. I too want to maximize my time with him. But from reading everything i can in this site It looks like we are staying until Monday.

xrosaelenax - no worries! If you stay at the Navy Lodge you will have a lot of other Navy families staying at the same hotel sharing the experience. Plus you will only be about a mile fro PIR. If you need to fly in, try to get a flight into the Milwaukee airport (MKE), its an easy airport to get around in, and a simple drive (about an hour) straight south down to Great Lakes.

My son is in the same ship and div (11/366)!

How many of you have SRs staying in great lakes for a school?? Are you planning on leaving late Sunday or staying until Monday? I was debating what I should do, thinking about staying until Monday to maximize the possible time I see my husband on Sunday...
