N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

WhI - there's at least three or four of us with sons/daughters who are on Ship 11 DIV 365/366 who arrives on or around July 29th.  Based on our conversations, it seems like none of us have received a letter or phone call yet.  Boo.
Maybe our kids arrived sometime after the ones who are receiving letters and calls?

diannep - Thanks so much for the information. I'm waiting for him to call again!

whi:  They get to write after they have been there for about 2 weeks.  Not sure if they got to write this past Sunday, or will this Sunday, but letters could be on their way!

sweetsouth:  Yes, they are allowed their debit cards...if you feel comfortable mailing it to your SR!  She was allowed to keep her wallet, but maybe didn't understand that.   They have so many things being shouted at them when they arrive.

krislix:  I think you meant the NEX?  So great that he used that time to make a call!

sweetsouth,

my son has his debit card with him. So I am guessing its ok. He didn't send it back with his box. His wallet and everything with it is still with him.

I know when I dropped him off the recruiter told me that they can keep their wallet in his wallet was not mailed home so I'm assuming she can have her debit card

Hello all! I have a granddaughter graduating Sept. 27th also. SHIP 14 DIV 361. I got my first phone call this past Saturday. She is asking for her debit card. Does anyone know if they are allowed such things? I know they had to send everything back home?

krislix, what division is your husband in? my son called this passed Saturday and we too, talked for about 35 min.

He said he had written a bunch of letters and would be mailing them on Sunday, so I was hoping to get them today. But they didn't come today. Hoping they are here tomorrow. Sunday was the first day he could mail the letters he said.

My phone call last week from my husband was 30 minutes.  He was at the PX (?) and while everyone else was buying things they needed, he chose to avoid the lines and use his time to make a phone call.  So times could definitely vary based on when they are allowed to call.

He said there were 4 divisions there, so the lines were super long.  Also he got there on July 25th, so maybe they had earned phone calls sooner...I've read some of your SR's got there quite a few days later.  Hoping your calls and letters come soon.  :)

Ladies, calls can come on any day, at any time.  You will be glued to your cell phone during bootcamp....and for those who think their SR may not remember the cellphone number (i.e., we all click on a name in our cell phone...which they don't have!), please send them phone numbers written on a small card/piece of paper that can fit in their wallet.  Also, don't forget to take that cell phone with you in the bathroom...and to get the mail!  Calls in the past have been missed during these times and they can't always call back (on the social calls)!
