Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by MyHero13 on August 10, 2013 at 8:36pm: Congrats to everyone who received calls today. Very happy for you guys! My son shipped on July 30th. Received the form letter on Thursday. He is Ship 3, Div 367. No call yet from him. Maybe it will be this coming week. Can't wait to hear what his thoughts and feelings are about this new life of his!

I'm glad your daughter sounded happy ; my daughter sounded miserable. But, I think a lot of it may have been that her boyfriend had not answered the phone when she called him. So, I am hoping that things are better than it sounded, since yours was ok

Comment by beths#14/361 on August 10, 2013 at 7:45pm: Our calls have come in the morning. The first call was a Sunday morning when we were in church and I felt horrible for missing it!!! I did ask her today if all the calls would be in the morning and she said the timing just depends on the RDC. There is no specific time. We agreed to have her call the landline if its not during church or working hours, otherwise she is to call her dad's cellphone. That way hopefully we won't miss anymore of those precious moments!

Comment by beths#14/361 on August 10, 2013 at 7:34pm: Pa Mom, hang in there. I got my daughter's form letter a week ago. (Ship 14 Div 361) Today she called and said that they haven't written any letters yet so they were allowed to call home. She sounded very excited and positive! Just hearing her voice felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders!! I miss her so much, but will definately sleep better tonight knowing that she sounded so happy! ( Her call came through as payphone this morning.)

We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers! Also, if you receive a call from your SR and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble

Comment by diannep on August 10, 2013 at 6:11pm: ChristinaMarie: The caller ID would say area code 847 most likely, but could also come from other Chicago area codes, so we advise you all to answer all calls when you have someone at bootcamp. My calls came mostly on my landline and came up as "pay phone". I don't believe that they will come through as "unknown" but I would answer those too just in case.
