One of my best friends came to visit me yesterday so Nana & Papa kept my baby girl overnight and my lil' guy is out of town....so we had a girl's night out and saw Sarah Evans in concert!! We were in the Stockyards and apparently there was some horseback riding too! LOL, my husband will LOVE to see those pictures! It was great to get out and lighten up a bit, I am smiling now just thinking about all the fun we had! I wish my husband was there with me though.

KC (husband's initials) is 33 years old and has a bachelors degree. He has worked in sales mostly, this past year he picked up extra work because he is determined to provide for us the best life he can. I admire him for his constant effort! Within one year of being at his last job, over twenty people had been laid off, and four managers directly over him had come and gone. Each day of employment was a victory, and it was completely stressing him out. He had often thought about enlisting in the military, even before college he was speaking with recruiters, but a college offered him a scholarship to play football so he decided to "try it out." After many long discussions, pro's and con's lists, and looking at all of our/his options, we made the decision to enlist our family in the military. I say it that way because it takes the whole families support, and it will forever change our life. What started out to be about the benefits and job security ended up with his overwhelming desire to serve his country. The Air Force was our first choice, however with his age and dependants they weren't really offering much hope for him, so the Navy was our second choice, and although we had a rough time with our recruiter, we pushed through, sometimes rather aggressively. He needed to lose 14 lbs, he lost 25 lbs!! Got all his waivers and finally we were in! Good thing because I had allready said that the Army wasn't an option. I would rather him teach and coach than him be in the Army. I have family and lots of friends who were or are in the Army, I support them 200%, but the quality of life for that branch is not as desireable as the Navy or Air Force. Not that any of it is glamorous...
Any how, that is my recruits story. I too would like to hear more about others decisions, what got them to join the Navy?

Jimmy's Mom, I keep 2 calendars with notes on them. I have written the days to PIR on both. Just a suggestion!!! They both can't be wrong. Also, is it possible you were on another site? Anyway, I am awaiting my first call. Have called my cell phone 3 times already. It is working and charged up. Plus the charger is close by in case it starts to fail. Plug it in and off we go again. BTW I am not a regular drinker but I have some beer in the fridge. If (when?) he calls today, I am gonna celebrate!!!!!

LOL Elaine. I am serious, the clock said "89 days since 10/01/10". That clock has been my best friend since my son left. I check it almost every day to remind me of how many days we have left. I am glad it is back to normal. I swear it said 89 days. Maybe I shouldn't drink so early so in the morning. JK :->

Elaine: Girls or not, the recruits are warned about how their new status will draw the women....let's hope that he stays focused and doesn't succumb to the distraction!

txsailorsam: I see Cathi gave you the 9/17 link. Thanks, Cathi! If you don't have a link for a group you want to check out, do this: Go to "Groups" at the top of the page; click on it....enter the PIR group in the search box--usually written:

PIR m/dd/yyyy (or yy)

And...your son sounds like he has quite a heart for others...it would be wonderful if all had hearts like this...what a kinder world it would be! Thanks for sharing your story!

Anyone else want to share the story on how their recruit found the Navy?

Jimmy's mom: Did the countdown clock really show 89 days???? It is back to normal now!

KevinHMom-hope you got your phone unlocked. Maybe Lala's tip worked for you?

KevinHmom- did you try taking the battery out and waiting a couple minutes and put it back. That usually seems to work for me.

Haven't talked to my son in almost a month, but hopefully today is the day!! Put my cell phone on the charger so that my phone is ready for the call; woke up this morning and my cell phone is locked up.

Who changed the countdown clock? My heart dropped when I say 89 days. Does anyone know how to change it back?
