Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yes, this seems to be mentioned in most of the girl's groups early on in a new PIR group. Just seems to take them more time to gel with one another...but they finally do! So those of you with girls at Bootcamp, try not to worry too much about these issues right now. It will work out!

Comment by diannep on August 22, 2013 at 1:06pm: Marcelle: lemonelephant is not on the PIR groups...she is on the Bootcamp Group. The ship numbers really mean nothing...that is just the number of their barracks. The division number is the important number.

Try to be patient...your form letter should arrive soon! Remember, it can take up to 2 weeks or longer to arrive. If you have not received it by Aug 27th, then it could be lost, but even then, it could be arriving just a few days late. After all, our mail system is not in the greatest shape right now....less employees, longer hours! Hang in there....

Comment by cathy_mazz ship 04 div 380 on August 22, 2013 at 1:01pm: my recruit just called! she needed a reference address and phone number, and we got to talk for about 20 minutes! after we talked about her for a few minutes (she hasn't cried yet, but almost did once), i asked her about the rest of the division, so i could tell you guys. she said the girls are all mean to each other; they hate each other! she said the RDC is harder on the guys in the division than on the girls (sorry guy moms). but other than that, she said everything is going fine! i feel so much better for having talked to her! she got called off the phone mid-sentence, so i didn't really get to say goodbye to her, but that's good, because i didn't start crying until we hung up!

Comment by ellen0502 on August 22, 2013 at 12:18pm: Ship numbers are random for divisions, and recruits arriving can be assigned to any one of the ships at RTC as "room" becomes available. So, as a divisions graduates their space on the ship is now open so in goes the next incoming group. :)

Comment by Marcelle on August 22, 2013 at 11:23am: lemonelephant, I know this sounds a little crazy, byt my sons recruiter said ship 12/div 387..but in looking at everyone's posting the lower divisions like 386 are on higher numbered ships or skipped a ship? is that normal..I am sorry I am just worried everyone seems to be getting form letters:I am afraid mine was lost
