Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

If you can book to Milwaukee (45 minutes to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL), there is no change fee if you have to change, 2 bags check for free, and if you don't end up using the ticket, it is good for a year. Might want to think about that. Much more affordable!

We haven't booked our flights or hotels yet...probably tomorrow. My daughter's bff just completed training a couple of weeks ago, and her family did not buy refundable airline tickets...well guess what...the recruit did not pass a couple of tests, had to retake them, and did not PIR with the rest of her division. The only good thing I can tell you is that her RDC, or whomever, allowed her a one-hour visit with her family that day. So, I am definitely buying refundable tickets! btw, we are from texas :)

I agree about the no contact, I just want to hear his voice so bad! But I am excited to get a letter too just to hear how things are going. I hope their group is doing good and working well together too! I am in Oklahoma so I am pretty far away! We were trying to decide if we were going to drive or fly to PIR but it's a little over 12 hrs. and we decide to fly. We got our rooms and flights booked! I'm so excited!!

I hope the kids div is doing good and have teamwork down. As soon as I get a letter or a call I will let you know. I'm from Fort Wayne In. Not to far (about 3 hrs) but seem like I'm further away from her than that. No contact sucks!

No, I have not heard from him (except for the form letter), even though it was not a personal letter from him, just seeing his handwriting on the envelope made me so happy! lol Please let me know if you hear from your daughter and how she says their group is doing!!!! I will do the same!
