OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

got the "call" 380 on their way!!!...my lil lady is now a U.S Sailor!!!
Comment by diannep on October 3, 2013 at 3:16pm

Calls expected any time now from new sailors in 379-380!  Keep those phones close!

Felicia:  That is why I asked what division she was in.  If they don't pass by their BattleStations date (and hers was last night), that is when they usually make that "I'm not graduating, don't come" call....yet they DO get more chances, like I said.  I will look forward to you posting and straightening this all out once you hear from her.

Comment by diannep on October 3, 2013 at 3:14pm

Felicia:  It is just very confusing.  I have never heard of a SR moved back a week because of failing the PFA.  Usually what happens is they get more tries (within the FIT Division) and if they pass in time, they graduate with their PIR group.  But since she said she is moving back a group, that is different.  The ones who are not moved back a group....if they don't pass by their graduation date, they stay in FIT with more tries until they do pass (or are discharged)...they then do BattleStations and head straight to A School, no PIR.

So they are making your SR sound like she will have a PIR.  That is very confusing...no doubt...hoping that call from her comes soon so you get some info.

Edie, Sorry, I am not understanding  what you are asking about a round trip ticket and bringing one ticket home.

Comment by Edie on October 3, 2013 at 12:48pm
My son came home last night and said he bought round
Trip ticket brought only one ticket home with him! Is that normal

I think you are right! My sr sometimes gets his information wrong
Comment by NavyMom417 on October 3, 2013 at 12:42pm

MCEastcoastmom -  I still do not feel like I have my answer because she tells me it has changed (and other recruits in same div have written home the same thing in letters received this week) and she told me they had her remove 1 and she told me who that was, so if nothing has actually changed, do I bring the 4th person?  I'm just so confused as to what to do.

Comment by Feliciackm on October 3, 2013 at 11:31am

Sorry, she's in 379. Or was in 379? It's all so unclear and confusing.
