N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Had a great letter from my SR today. He says things are getting much, much better and he knows he is where God wants him to be. Said the Chief told his division he is very proud of them!!! Says he's made a few friends including female friends!!! He is the facility person for his house, goes around and determines when things needs fixed and said when he is allowed he goes across the hall to the female house and fixes things for them!!! :) Says he has gotten lots of letters from lots of people. Their 2nd academic test is this week. Says he is confident they will all do well. Then we are just down to about two weeks till his PIR!!!! Yay!!!!!

Actually, the taxis operate at any time, but revert back to taxi rates (high) after PIR shuttle is in the morning/early afternoon.  Shuttles to/from PIR are $3/pp each way, whether with Sarge or local service.  They run from most of the hotels in the area.  Navy Lodge only uses Sarge's.

lenrose:  I believe the PIR DVD is stilll $29.  You will have about 10 minutes after Liberty is called to take piks in the PIR Hall with your sailors/families.  Then they will clear the hall.  You are NOT allowed to take any pictures outside on the base....cameras will be taken and piks deleted so remember that when you are tempted to snap a pik of a division marching by outside (like I was...a kind lady stopped my older son who was snapping at my request...my son was NOT happy with my request when it was forbidden, but I had forgotten!).

Shuttles are actually taxis running as shuttles on PIR day.  You can either book with Sarge's shuttle service  847 212 0246 or johnspadaro@att.net or sign up at his MeetandGreet....or you can use the local shuttle service.  All of these are actually taxis operating as shuttles on PIR day.  They run starting early in the morning until early in the afternoon, I believe.....I would suggest booking with Sarge.

WeeBee's Mom, You can actually take the train right down to Ogilvie Station right from GL.  It is $7 for weekend pass.  Saves you trouble of fighting traffic, paying for parking (which is very high in Chicago), etc.  We are actually doing this on Friday.  Once there, you are right downtown to explore.  Several water taxis also are available that will take you to Navy Pier, etc., (lots of options) or there is a bus directly from Ogilvile there for practically nothing.

What is the most recommended way to get in to the city for sight seeing over the weekend once we put our new Sailors on the plane? Staying at the Lodge for a mini vacation.

What is the approximate price of a graduation DVD? Are we allowed to find our children after PIR and take photos after graduation? Is there a certain time that shuttles run?

Marriott owns Springhill Suites, Courtyard and Residence.  They are all nice properties...I may be prejudiced since my sailor son worked for Marriott properties for a good while!  :-)  Courtyard Inn and Springhill are very close...near the Walmart shopping center.  Residence is just up the street, maybe 1/2 mile (closer to RTC).  All of these hotels are very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet (Springhill being the closest).

Jackandmarie:  The shuttle is not actually Marriott's....the shuttles are actually taxis operating as shuttles during PIR morning--you usually sign up when  you check in.  Sarge also runs his own taxi/shuttle service...same price as the other ($3/pp each way)--he will have a sign up sheet at his MeetandGreet or you can contact him at 847 212 0246 or johnspadaro@att.net.  Sailor can return with you on the shuttles  (unless moving over to GL A School which happens right after PIR).  Ramada is the only hotel we know of that has its own shuttle...free to guests.

Lenrose.. We are staying at Quality Inn. Arriving thurs and staying thru Sunday. My SR is Ship 2 Div 948.
Comment by Jackandmarie on September 25, 2013 at 6:26pm

No, the Courtyard is a different property, but my experience with Marriott Courtyards have always been positive! Fitness123, We'll probably see you on the Marriott Shuttle bus which I'm guessing will serve all the Marriott properties in the area!

Comment by fitness123 on September 25, 2013 at 5:58pm

We are at the courtyard Marriott, is that the same thing?
