OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Diannep- I was able to get my big group to switch with me.  YAY!!!! We are now at the Holiday Inn in Gurnee.. The reviews were very good.

And, ladies, once RTC posts your graduation date/guest number (which is posted), the guest number will not change.  That is based on the number of divisions in the PIR group, which will not change once posted.  So 4 guests it is!

Comment by diannep on September 19, 2013 at 1:24pm

Edie  This group is allowed 4 guests per sailor so no problem!

I know my boy is home sick! He is asking for pictures! Got them out this morning! He is not a picture type of person! Think the hardest part is not being to call home!I'm glad your son is comfortable going to talk to someone! I suggested my son do that as well!

Edie- We have 4 going to the graduation aswell and it looks like our limit has not changed, it is still showing as 4 guest. Happy you got a letter. My son felt the same way when he got there. Talking to the Chaplain and receiving updates of his football games and tons of jokes has cheered him up alot.

We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites - anyone heard anything about this motel?  Our son graduates 10/11.  SHIP 13 DIV 385

What are u supposed to do If your son has 4 people on his list of people to get in? Will they let all four in
Comment by Edie on September 19, 2013 at 8:45am
I got my letter from my sr yesterday think he might actually get use to how they do things! Guess his biggest prob was being isolated! That makes me a little at ease knowing he is doing better! Think I got 20 more grey hairs and few more wrinkles from the stress! Ha ha
