N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

This was posted by a mom from a recently graduated PIR group:

If you want a great Steak place we went to Lovell's.  just a short drive south of GL.  It is owned by Jack Lovell the Astronaut.  Your Sailor will eat free.  Make reservations and plan at least 90 minutes for your dinner.  It is served in courses and is so well worth it.

Once again there are people who had PIR today who are in a panic because they don't know which airport to meet their Sailors at in the morning. please make sure you get flight info from your Sailor after PIR. Don't let this happen to you!!! Mail this card to them now and have them fill it out or take a blank one to PIR and give it to them and tell them to go back to their ship and get the info and fill it out and give the card back to you.
Please fill this out when you get your flight itinerary/orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.

I feel quite certain that the Postal Worker at my local Post Office thinks I have lost my mind. I very patiently stand in a long line every day with my pre-addressed, already stamped envelope just to personally hand it to him, smile, and say have a good day. There was a different one there today. He did a double take at my letter and looked at me like I was crazy. I probably am but I just can't bring myself to trust those precious letters to an unseen person behind a drop slot :)

Remember, there is a difference in training weeks and bootcamp weeks.  Bootcamp weeks include processing days in the beginning and the extra days at the end between BattleStations and PIR.  There are actually just 6 training weeks.  Here is the link showing you what they do during bootcamp:

Hell Week is training week 4.  It is a very busy week for them, up earlier each day, lots of inspections, but a turnaround week for them in that they finally start feeling more positive about everything!  Two more training weeks after this one and they are then sailors!

romihart:  They can have makeup for pictures/PIR, but they can also buy some there at the NEX which many do.  Has she asked you to mail it to her?  If not, I wouldn't.  We remind you all not to mail items to them that they have not asked for.  By them asking you to mail something, we can assume that they have cleared it with their RDCs so they won't get in trouble.  Makeup and contacts are fine to send though if they ask for them.  Just a small bottle of solution for the contacts, however, not the big one.  And be sure to label the outside of the envelope with the content info.

Morning/afternoon if you have not booked your flights for PIR - go to bookingbuddy.com my husband bought our tickets and fares were LOW. We got our fare for $227 a person and you can add trip insurance for $13 dollars a piece (which covers unforeseen events like date change.) It's gives you all the listings from orbitz, cheap tickets.com Expedia Hotwire etc.
for those not aware of trip insurance - my aunt explained and advised to get it- she got it and was on vacation and her husband died while on vacation in Ireland the trip insurance covered shipping her husbands body back which costs about $5,000 dollars.

Are SR's allowed to have make-up sent to them for pictures and graduation or can they buy the supplies they need on base? Don't want to send make-up and have her get in trouble.

My daughter said in her letter they will be starting hell week this next week, what is that?
