N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

WeeBee'sMom:  So hard when a letter from them is so dejected. Hoping that it finally just "clicks" in the marching and he has no more problem with that.  But I know it hurts when our kids hurt.  My son had a problem with marching at first too.  He kept pivoting on the wrong foot!  But eventually it clicked in.

Performing divisions info:

There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.

Is your recruit flying out to another base for A-school on PIR weekend? If so, and you plan to meet them before their flight, you need to take the steps now to make sure you are able to find him/her at the airport. In the past we have had families in a panic because they don't have any info. They sometimes don't even know which airport to go to. I made this Flight Info Card and sent to my Sailor and I think it will help you as well. Just write it all on an index card and send it to your recruit. Have them keep the card and fill it out when they get their itinerary. Then at PIR make sure they get it and give it to you before you leave the base for liberty. You don't want to end up at the wrong airport. Mail this on an index card to your recruit.

Please fill this out when you get your final orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.

I am a happy mama, recieved 3 letters from my daughter.  She said she won't be wearing sweat pants for a while.  She said she had to wear the same ones without washing them for 1.5 weeks.  Ah the little things in life she is now appreciating more. Hugs, kisses, showers, shaving and the list goes on.  She is showing so much growth.  I am also a very proud mama. Good night to all and sweet dreams.

Skyjay, I was telling my daughter about your SR tonight and I said a special prayer for him when I lit my candle. Fridays are so hard for me and I think this one was a little worse because the outside of that envelope brought me so high and with the inside I came crashing down. Maybe our two boys will find each other and can lend each other support to keep themselves positive.

I got a very short letter today. I was very happy and it probably took me longer to open it than to read it. I was so particular not to tear the envelope. He's not doing so well. It was written Sunday so no word on the medical situation but not long after our jubilant phone call Saturday, he lost his job as stick (flag carrier) for the division and got put on Ship's Staff. He is having a very hard time getting proper marching technique down and is very worried and discouraged. He was so strong Saturday. Knowing that by Sunday afternoon he was struggling and so down is heartbreaking. So hoping for a phone call tomorrow and that the week turned around. I made sure all of my letters were upbeat, humorous, but full of pride, faith and support. Guess my claim of limited tears is unjustified now. This is really hard.
