OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

It's been a busy day and with east coast time, this football game has got me up WAY past my bedtime. Still no word from my SR and I'm okay with that. I am going to believe it is because all is well and he is training with his division on schedule. He hates writing so I will just consider it a pleasant surprise if I get a letter so the prayers and support are carrying me through this week pretty well. Hearing his voice made such a big difference. Hang in there ladies. We're getting there!

Hi Everyone,

No letter :(

Sometimes the waiting for EVERYTHING just starts to make me sad.

Comment by ellen0502 on September 5, 2013 at 9:52pm

Kelly, This is what my son said a year ago. ".when I get out of prison boot after PIR and moving to A school, I want a huge gigantic steak first and then Italian, pizza and some fast food."  :)

My son was the same as dianneps, when we got off base he just looked around quietly and said the same thing. He had no idea what the surrounding area looked like.

Comment by diannep on September 5, 2013 at 9:01pm

Kelly:  "Feels like prison" is a common statement!  They are confined for a long time right there....it was funny to watch my son look around quietly (he is a constant talker!) when we drove off the base after PIR...I asked what he was thinking, and he reminded me that he had arrived there in the dark and had never seen the surrounding area before!  It was surprising to see him speechless for a change!  :-)

Recieved 6 letters from my SR today!! He is in good spirits and still has his sense of humor! This is one happy mama!! Sounded like the division is getting along well and said they get to eat a lot. LOL He said he feels like he's in prision and can't wait to be done with BC. Hopefully when he gets to Florida he will like it better!
