~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Correct, Manchu. And actually when he gets to A School, he can probably borrow a cell phone until he gets his own. I actually mailed my son his phone Priority Mail back in 2010 and he had it within 3 days. In the meantime, he just used his phone card to call me, and actually borrowed a cell once to quickly call me.
gretamae's offer is a very nice one! She could at least get your son his phone! Maybe that can work out. You all will get to meet one another at the MeetandGreet, a great time to relax, meet friends, eat, and hear lots of info from Sarge!
diannep,
I may not be able to go to airport so do you know how soon I will able to ship my recruit his items. I assume that as long as he has a phone card he will be able to contact me until he receives his cell phone?
Lorna: Once they phase up at A School (takes 2-3 weeks), they can wear some civilian clothes. We recommend you take as many as you like up for PIR so that your sailor can choose. Since yours is staying in GL, then he/she can take more of them since obviously they don't have to fit into their luggage. They will have Navy-issued gloves, trenchcoat, etc....but you are welcome to bring civilian versions of these.
But if a sailor is flying out, he/she needs to make sure that what they choose (which you give to them at the airport) will fit into their existing luggage. They have a large seabag, a garment bag (uniforms), and a backpack to keep up with so taking more luggage is not a good idea. You can always ship them the remainder.
Good Morning!
Manchu,
Both your sons are so thoughtful!!
gretamae3,
What a good sport you're 16 year old was and I'm sure he was able to give really good feedback to those ladies!
gretamae,
How sweet to have such a compassionate son. My oldest son who lives on his own comes down in the evenings to sit with me until I have to say ok you can go now. lol..its his way of making sure mom is not going to flip out. My grandchildren have been asking to stay over more taking full advantage of us being empty nesters. Their Uncle set them up with one of his game systems and tons of games before he left for bootcamp. I'd say we have pretty good boys!
LOL, desperate times call for desperate measures ;)
