Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Manchu: Usually they are allowed to have them. If not for any reason, they just have to lock them up until they can use them. But it is up to your SR whether or not he/she wants to take these to A School. You can always ship them if they want to wait and see.
Dennis: They have added a Navy-issued backpack now to the luggage they have. Some may check this, others may carry it on. It is suggested to just bring a few civies that can be incorporated into their existing luggage, and then ship the rest later. In my son's case, his A School was so short that he just bought a few things at the NEX and waited until he came home on LEAVE after A School to get more of his civilian clothes.

I didn't think they could have their cell phone or laptop right away either. Does anyone know for sure. My recruit asked me to bring to PIR but I would have to take them back and send later to school.

You certainly can give them civvies at the airport, but just know they won't get to wear them for at least a month while in phase 1 liberty status at schools.

Has anybody put a thought to bringing civilian clothes for your new sailor depending on where they are going or staying, military can check 3 bags for free while flying.i always had my seabag, suitcase and hanging gear bag.

Gotta say this site helped me greatly with writing a letter to my SR. Basically they have all been about the same, but today I did a newsletter. Just random stuff...pop culture, movie quotes, what happened in 1995, NFL and MLB news and of course info about the latest video games and iphones...those were under the "baby bump" potion of it. I hope he enjoys it...more likely I will get the mom your a dork hahahaha! But it's something to be remembered and will do another next week!

Just putting this idea out there for your group. It is totally voluntary. Some of our past PIR groups have gotten together and put together State themed gift baskets/boxes/bags or really, any great idea would work, to be raffled off at Sarge's Meet & Greet on the Thursday evening before PIR. This is great fun and would help offset the costs of Sarge and his wife as they do these meet and greets every week to help our Navy families. If someone would like to start a Basket Project for this group, please let Sarge know and start a discussion up in the Discussion Forum for the ladies here to pop into to express their interest~~ Thank you~
