OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning!

Glad you are back, Lala!

HI everyone, I am back :) My computer crashed again and I finally convinced Best Buy that I had a lemon and should be able to return it. They gave me full credit for a new one  and so far so good :)

In case you don't already know me I am one of the volunteers here to help you all. My daughter had PIR in July 2010 and she was in the 936 performing division. She was and AO for 4 years and just recently got out and is going to school. Her husband had PR in Oct 2010 and is an IT. I am happy to help in any way I can. Feel free to send me a friend request if you like. If you are in your PIR group on facebook then you probably know me from there as well. I am one of the admins for that group and also have ribbons in my profile picture :) I have a small business and work from home and I also am a part time substitute teacher and babysit my 14 month old grand baby while my daughter is in school. The navy life was very unexpected for our family but now I can't imagine life without it and all the wonderful navy moms and families I have met in the last 4+ years. :)

Trista:  They figure that out!  It takes alot of IT (Intensive Training used as punishment) but they get there.....you will observe that during PIR!

Good Morning All !

Flamingoose thank you so much. I am worried about them since we haven't heard. I hope they figure out how to work together!

Nikki:  I believe that 333/334 are on 3-4 today.  They probably will be the last divisions to do BattleStations since they go in order.

Comment by diannep on September 22, 2014 at 3:59pm

Brother divisions would be on the same training week/day.  This PIR group should indeed be in Hell Week, Training Week 4.  I believe that the lower-numbered divisions should be on 4-2...the rest are within a couple of days of them.

As far as more phone calls, hopefully there will be another one before the I'm a Sailor call; however, since they are so close to making that call (some will be making it 2 weeks from Friday, the rest during early PIR week), it may not happen.  We advise all to keep the phones close though....as they can earn calls!  So you never know!

As far as making up missed calls due to watch, that is up to the RDCs and their schedule.  My son had this situation when he was up there and was allowed to call me later, but not all are able to do that.
