Mary and Kate- you two are so lucky to have each other to share this experience with. I know both of you are very proud of your soon to be sailor. So nice to see Mom's and girlfriends who get along and are going through this together supporting each other. :)

lol, that is too funny. I don't know much about the white Sox... I myself am a Red Sox Fan, I grew up in a small town with only 400 students in the middle/high school. We always were the underdog and I think that is why I started liking the Red Sox, back then they were deff the underdog. But I also pull for whoever is playing the Yankees lol. Can't love the Red Sox and not hate the Yankees. Please don't hold that against me hehehe And btw i told Kate in a private message to make sure and share her letters from your recruit with you, It will be like getting twice as many :)

I really don't want to let you down but I am almost positive he won't get to preform on Labor day. He hasn't been there long enough for them to get a routine down and probably hasn't even started practicing yet. But maybe Columbus day or a ball game. It never hurts to hope :)

They do preform off base sometimes but not often. It is more likely to happen if there is a holiday while they are in boot camp. I know one group got to preform at a Cubs game and the 935 division got to be in the 4th of July parade. You may find out from your recruit if they are going to preform off base. My daughter told me they might get to be in the parade but I was way too far away to go. She was in the 936 div and they didn't get to. Their PIR group was a little different because it had 2 preforming divisions. The 935 and the 936. Some also get in the 900's based on asvab scores and leadership roles as well. It will be exciting to hear what he will be doing.

Kate- while you are waiting on others to join this group you can learn a lot about the preforming divisions. There is a post above if you have not already checked that out and once you get a letter from your sailor you will know what he is doing exactly in the preforming division. Does he have any band, marching, singing, drill team experience? My daughter was in marching and concert bands in high school; she played the flute. She also sang in the choir at church. There are lots of different jobs in the preforming divisions and it is very exciting to learn what they are doing. The band and choir often preform at PIR ceremonies a couple of weeks before their own so you may even get a sneak peek of him in pictures from other families at their own PIR. :)

OK, all you newbies!!! Listen up. You are a small group now but will be big in no time. I will suggest you go back and look over some of the PIR groups before you and see what those moms (mostly) are doing and going through, I keep up will all PIR groups from September, October and DEP Leavin for Boot Camp In August. My son PIR's 10/1/10 and will be the last class this year to PIR in dress whites. You don't have to be a member of the different PIR groups to read what is going on with them. Note to Sobe: how am I doin'? Congratulations on your commitment to your sons/daughters. You will find that we are all up, down, and in between on any given day. Hang in there, things do get better as you go along. Be prepared for every situation. Sobe, JessicaB, diannep, do I say anthing about Ship 5? Let me know on PIR 10/1/10. Way to go new ones. We will all get through this!!!

Good morning everyone, I, like a few others, am here to help with any questions you might have. I will tell you a little bit about myself and if you have any questions at all send me a friend request and I will help in any way I can. I live in NC; my daughter had PIR July 23rd. She was in the performing (900's) division. She was part of what is called the Triple Threat and was in the choir. She was a grad and go; she was on a chartered flight with 160 sailors to Pensacola and she has now classed up and is in her core class for A-school. We only got to spend 7 hours with her at PIR and now I am finally going to get to see her again. I am going to drive to Pensacola to see her for a long weekend. I am so excited and can't wait. I am the mom who makes ribbons for family members to wear to PIR. This site has been amazing and got me through some very hard times. I don't know how anyone survives boot camp without N4M's :) If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask. If I don't know the answer I will help you find someone who does. Have a great and blessed Sunday!

Mary - Yes he is. I'm trying to remember how long he's been there. I wanna say he arrived sometime around the beginning of May or a bit earlier.

Hey Mary! Thnx for the info on FB....I'm a little confused at the moment. My sister's boyfriend, who is currently in A-school (charleston), contacted their recruiter for her info. She gave us Ship 02 Div 949.....I'm guessing it was an error and should be Ship 06?! Only I just mailed a letter yesterday!
