N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Does anyone have an SR in Ship 01?

Comment by JC's Mom on September 13, 2013 at 11:41am

Hi Everyone! I finally got the letter today! My son arrived BC on 9/4. He is ship 14 DIV 414 and PIR 11/1. Does anyone else have a child on that ship/div?

Comment by ellen0502 on September 13, 2013 at 11:06am

If your sailor stays in GL for A School you they will have liberty Fri-Sun. Friday you will have about an hour after PIR with them before they have to report back to their ship to move over to TSC for school. This processes takes several hours, and your sailor will call you when they are ready to leave for liberty for the rest of the day. You will have until approx 10pm with them on Friday.

Sat and Sun they will have liberty from approx 6am to 10pm. They do have to report back to base each night, they cannot stay with you overnight.

Their liberty times can vary, even by ship, but your sailor will be briefed on liberty rules on Friday.

Posting this info again, for any newbies on here:

Ladies, just some info:

Try and book with Southwest Airlines if you can.  There is no change fee (I incurred two of these when my son was at bootcamp...had booked with another airlines...my SR was delayed in training...UGH!)....and two bags check for free!  Also, if you book with Southwest, they usually give you a rental car discount coupon which can save you lots of money.  Check out their flights into Chicago-Midway (furthest from GL....about hour+) and Milwaukee (45 min to GL).

Remember, that if your sailors are flying out to A School, they will most likely fly from the Chicago airports the day after PIR....although we have been told that sailors will start flying from Milwaukee also in the near future.

Hotels recommended by others on this site in the past are:

Navy Lodge Great Lakes (book in your SR's name; state you are there for graduation)

Springhill Suites Waukegan/Gurnee

Courtyard Inn         "               "

Residence Inn        "               "

Holiday Inn Express"               "

All use the area shuttles for PIR ($3/pp each way, sailor can return with you if not staying in GL for A School because in that case, they move over there shortly after PIR and you pick them up later).  Sarge, a great asset to the Navy families up there, also has a shuttle service (same price).  He holds the larger MeetandGreet the night before PIR for the families of the sailors - sorry, no sailors will be there   :-(

It is not too early to book your hotels if you book directly with them.....usually you can cancel up until the day before/day of arrival if need be with no penalty

To get the Navy Graduation rate, be sure to call the hotels directly.

There must not be very many of you with a SR on Ship 12 Div 410. I've only seen one other member with a SR on that ship.

Some of the hotels have a Navy rate. Ask them when you book your room. We did and I think we saved at least $10.00.

Got my letter yesterday with the graduation information.  Booked the hotel room for 10/31 and 11/1, so excited to travel from Pgh to Chicago for PIR!!!!
