More: I suggest you sit on first row of balcony, you can see all the sailors (at least their heads) and a bit easier to see your son/daughter.(The stairs for the balcony are in the middle of the auditorium- look at the pictures of graduations on the Navy Recruit Center Facebook site so you know what to expect.) Low number divisions are on the left and they come in first. The divisions are marked on the floor, so it will be easy to sit in front of your sailor’s division.
If you are on the main floor in the bleachers, it is difficult to see the sailors through the sailors that are in front of them. We sat in the balcony, first row, and I wish I had brought binoculars, also camera angle and distance make it hard to take pictures of your sailor. Seat cushions are definitely needed, since getting there early means sitting for hours. Also bring snacks, drinks etc. Some thought it was cold so a lap blanket would be helpful. (All these items can be picked up at Wal-Mart inexpensively) The graduation was very well organized and stayed on time; it was a quite moving and patriotic ceremony. Disadvantage of balcony is that it takes a bit longer to get down the stairs to your sailor. (If you can communicate with your sailor, tell them to stay put and you find them. It took me about 5 minutes to get through the crowd to my daughter.) After you meet your sailor on the floor of the hall, most want to get their pictures (if the purchased them) or go to the NEX before leaving with you. The NEX was completely jammed and lines very long-try to avoid it and maximize time off base with your sailor. My daughter had to go back to her division to check in before leaving so we didn’t leave the base until about noon. Since our daughter was traveling to Florida, she only had that afternoon and had to be back to the base at 7:30. THEY CANNOT BE LATE!!! Big trouble if this happens.
Dear moms of soon-to-be sailors. I thought I would share my experience with you regarding PIR. My daughter just graduated on Friday (YEA!!!) and is now in Florida for A-school. Some tips – Definitely go to Sarge’s Meet and Greet. He is ex-Navy and has some very practical advice about getting to PIR and timing. You can also meet the other parents of sailors in your Division. For the graduation, we took the 6:45 shuttle to the PIR from our hotel. (We had a rental car, but thought that traffic would be too heavy; it was only $3/person for the shuttle.) The shuttles get to go to the front of the line for drop-off, and shuttle knows of short-cuts. There were only 7 ships graduating so we really didn’t need to get there that early. It will be different for you, so get there early. You may have to stand outside until the doors open, so be prepared for the cold!!! We heard that some parents/relatives were denied entry if they were not on the list. Only 4 allowed, no exceptions because of recent terrorist scare. Please double check with your sailor to make sure he/she has listed you on the list. Take the form letter your received with you, just in case there is confusion, also, don’t forget your ID, they check it.
Congrats to the new sailors of 355/356! Forgot to post that yesterday!
Congrats to the Captains Cup winners!
Thanks so much! Here is the caringbridge site if any of you want to keep up with Brett's progress:

A family member posts each day. Thanks, Ladies!
Still praying for Brett and his family...thanks for the update!!
daizygirl: Remember, if any of the family members are 12 and under, they don't have to be on the list...so a family could actually have more than 6.
Update on Brett: He is responding now and looking at his brother/wife when they talk to him...nodding yes and no...expressing emotions...tears sometimes. Fighting his restraints (on because he is still critical and doesn't need to be moving around yet). He is progressing...so please keep praying!
Found this pik of Brett (7.5 yrs old) with my sailor son (5 days old)---our families have been friends forever....his mom and sister are the others in the pik.
Division 353 won Captain's Cup and 354 came in second...some are calling.
