N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

A suggestion for those when ready to book flights.  Consider flying Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL) or Chicago Midway (hour+ drive depending on traffic).  They charge no change fee if flights need to be changed, and 2 bags check for free.  If you do have to change flight schedules, you just pay the difference in fare and who knows?  Maybe it would be cheaper!

Alex'sMom:  Although that is allowed, not sure how safe it is to send the debit card.  Could you maybe send a VISA giftcard instead that should be accepted most places?  It is up to you to decide what to do, but just know that yes, he is allowed to have his debit card.  Does it really cost $50 to send the box home?  I didn't realize it would be that much.  As far as the photos go, you can actually pay for those are PIR in the Photo Lab.

MissyMichelle:  Welcome to you and the other new members.  TG stands for "Training Group"  ....and guess what?  This PIR group is the FIRST group of the new fiscal year!  Yes, TG 01.  They won't go back to 01 until Nov 2016!

Hi, I've got a question about money in boot camp. My son did not take his wallet. He did not think he would need it. However, I understand that they only get $200 and of that they spend $50 right off the bat sending clothes home. I also heard that all their personal supplies come out of that money and when people run into trouble is at the end of boot camp when there are pictures. I've heard they are expensive. Am I able to send my son his debit card with a letter?

Comment by ellen0502 on September 23, 2015 at 7:19pm

MissyMichele, His TG (Training Group) number would be 01. The form letter does not include the TG. The TG is numbered by week, so since this is the first TG in this fiscal year it is TG 01, the group formed next with the PIR date of 11/20 will be TG 02, etc.

Hi all, My SR left on Sept 15.  I received his box on 9/18/15 and the Letter on 9/21/15.  I have his PIR date of 11/13/2015 ship 06 Div 004 but I do not have his TG number.  I haven't heard anything since but what I have read thank you all for sharing!

Thanks CatMom. I'll hang out here until I know for sure :) I'm wondering when to book flight.

Alex'sMom,

He could be in this PIR group if he ended up in a Push Division from the week before or he could be in the next one.  You can hang out here and go through the Pages information on the upper right of this page -- start with "What ARE They Doing in Boot Camp...."  as it has lots of videos for you to see what he is doing.  Then when the Form letter arrives, you can verify and easily switch to the next group if you need to~~
