N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just received our Sailor call from 14/006.  We were able to have a rather long call.  I was on skype with a friend of mine, so he got to hear, and I called my wife at her work on my other phone.  Put both phones on the desk in speaker mode - Success!  My son said that all in 14/006 that were still here the last week or so all passed BS and are waiting for Friday.  Said they have been very bored the past long weekend.  He was very talkative, more than in the past.  Great to hear his voice and we are ready to head out for the trip to GL.

Here are the general rules on PDA.

In the Navy physical forms of affection such as hugs, kisses, and holding hands while in uniform are known as a "public display of
affection" (PDA) and as such are forbidden.

There is one exception: families saying goodbye to a sailor before a deployment or
greeting a sailor returning from deployment or long separation. Boot Camp counts under this exception, with limits. One enthusiastic hug of greeting and a quick kiss are acceptable. French or extended kisses are not. Nor are extended hugs, hanging off your sailor, etc.

Hand-holding at any time is forbidden. There is a compromise, and I consider it to be a fairly romantic one. A sailor may offer his arm to his girlfriend/wife/mother, she lays her hand in the crook of his LEFT elbow in formal escort fashion. Likewise, a female sailor can take the RIGHT arm of her husband/boyfriend/father with her left hand. In a truely romantic gesture, men may lay their right hand over their lady's hand (to keep it warm, or for skin-to-skin contact). The sailor must ALWAYS have his right arm free to salute an officer or flag, should one show up.

Also, just because you aren't on base, don't assume they aren't looking. RDCs
and other boot camp personnel also go to the mall, out to restaurants, to Chicago, etc, and they will be looking for new sailors breaking the rules. Some may actually be assigned this job in popular venues. Even if they run into the recruit by chance and are just out with their own family, they will report the new graduate. You won't likely see them because they will not be in uniform, but
they will see you.

And no, they won't punish YOU. They will punish your sailor when s/he returns to barracks. The most common punishment is to have their liberty revoked the next day.

He was not rushed so I think he has plenty of time.  My time was shorter only because he has to call his father and step-mom and his girl-friend.  It was better than the other calls.  He also said the Facebook room is really booked and the RTC was doubtful they would get in. I posted his good news on his FB page and instructions of how to watch the live-stream for friends and family. :o)

narob01, Nope no phone call since July, and that was a short one while waiting for his international flight. Then once there, a short time on base and out to catch up to his ship. Back on base for a couple of weeks, a 16 hour time difference, and back to the ocean. When on base mail takes 8-10 days, when out to sea... a long time.

You all have also been to BC, and are learning what is yet to come! This last week of BC is a crazy time for all of you, worry, anticipation, tears, happiness, stress, immense pride, apprehension, unknown, all part of it. The best part in surviving this week...the best hug ever is just around the corner, hug them tight.

Big Hug smiley faceand I see incoming phone calls. CONGRATULATIONS!!
